How Candesartan Cilexetil Affects PatientsCandesartan cilexetil is a drug that lowers blood pressure by blocking the effects of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a hormone that causes blood vessels to narrow and increases the amount of sodium and water retained in the body. Candesartan works by preventing angiotensin II from binding to special receptors in the body, called AT1 receptors. This stops the effects of angiotensin II and lowers blood pressure. Unlike ACE inhibitors, candesartan does not affect another type of receptor, called AT2, which helps control long-term blood pressure.
How Candesartan Cilexetil works in the bodyCandesartan blocks the action of angiotensin II which is responsible for narrowing blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. It is much more selective for AT1 than AT2, meaning it specifically targets the action of angiotensin II. Candesartan Cilexetil for High Blood Pressure
I've been taking candesartan for 14 years and it's worked great in reducing my blood pressure. I haven't experienced any negative side effects, which is amazing. My doctor originally prescribed Diovan but I gained weight from it; switching to candesartan (plus amlodipine) has been a perfect combination for me.

Though it's a small pill, I have trouble swallowing it without water. I use this medication periodically and find that it only takes a few days to lower my blood pressure. If I'm skinny or overweight, there doesn't seem to be any difference in how the pills affect me.
