Effectiveness
How Ashlyna Affects Patients
Levonorgestrel is a type of contraception that works by preventing ovulation, fertilization, and implantation. If taken as directed within 72 hours after intercourse, the emergency contraceptive tablet containing levonorgestrel is 89% effective in preventing pregnancy. Intrauterine and implantable devices containing levonorgestrel are more than 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Levonorgestrel is also used in hormonal therapy to help prevent endometrial cancer caused by taking estrogen hormones.
How Ashlyna works in the body
Levonorgestrel is a hormone found in some oral contraceptives and intrauterine devices (IUDs). It works to prevent pregnancy in a few ways. It suppresses the release of a hormone that triggers ovulation, preventing the release of an egg from the ovary. It also makes the cervical mucus thicker, making it harder for sperm to pass through and reach the egg. Finally, it affects the endometrium, the tissue where an egg would implant and grow if fertilized. In combination with estrogen, levonorgestrel helps reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.
When to interrupt dosage
The suggested measure of Ashlyna is subject to the diagnosed disorder, such as Endometrial Hyperplasia, Emergency Contraception and Hypermenorrhea. The extent of dosage is contingent upon the approach of administration specified in the table below.
