Treatment Summary
Amlodipine is a medication that lowers blood pressure and is used to treat hypertension and angina. It is part of a class of drugs called dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, which are known to have fewer side effects than other types of blood pressure medications. Effectiveness
How Amlodipine Besylate And Benazepril Hydrochloride Affects Patients
Amlodipine helps to reduce high blood pressure by blocking certain calcium channels in the body. This blocking action helps to widen blood vessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure. Taking amlodipine on a regular basis can help to keep blood pressure levels in check for at least 24 hours. Taking amlodipine with beta-blockers has not been found to cause any significant changes in heart rate or blood pressure. Amlodipine also helps to relieve chest pain caused by angina and can increase exercise time, decrease the frequency of angina attacks, and reduce the need for nitroglycerin.
How Amlodipine Besylate And Benazepril Hydrochloride works in the body
Amlodipine helps reduce blood pressure and angina by blocking calcium ions from entering the heart and blood vessels. This causes the vessels to relax and expand, which reduces the amount of pressure against which the heart has to work. This decreases the heart’s energy use and oxygen requirement. Amlodipine also causes the main coronary arteries and arterioles to widen, further reducing blood pressure and improving oxygen delivery in patients with coronary artery spasm.
