Study Summary

This trial will test if ultrasound can modify the connection between two key brain regions and potentially help develop treatments for mental health conditions.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for healthy individuals aged 18-65 who can consent to participate. It's not suitable for those with frequent headaches, untreated medical conditions, heart issues, seizure history, severe brain injuries, psychosis or mania, metal implants in head/heart/neck, MRI contraindications, brain surgery history, heavy alcohol/substance use or pregnant/lactating women.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) affects the connection between two brain areas—the Nucleus Accumbens and Prefrontal Cortex—in healthy people. Participants will receive tFUS inside an MRI scanner to see if it changes their resting state brain connectivity.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
As this is a pilot trial involving healthy subjects and non-invasive technology like tFUS within an MRI environment; specific side effects are not detailed but may include discomfort from the ultrasound application or unforeseen reactions.

Experimental Treatment
Placebo Group
Group I: Active tFUSExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
tFUS will be administered within the MRI scanner. Participants receive two, 10-min sessions of active tFUS spread 10 min apart targeting the nucleus accumbens.
Group II: Sham tFUSPlacebo Group1 Intervention
The sham sessions will include a transducer that is connected in a similar fashion to that of active tFUS, however the cable will not be plugged into the system, thus no ultrasound will be delivered to the participant. Participants will not know or be told whether they are receiving active- or sham- tFUS.
