Study Summary

This trial looks at whether measuring renal blood flow could help predict which patients are at risk for contrast-induced nephropathy (a type of kidney damage).

Who is the study for?
Adults over 18 with chronic kidney disease stage 3 (eGFR of 30-59 ml/min/1.73 m2) scheduled for coronary angiography can join this trial. A separate group with normal kidney function (eGFR ≥60 ml/min/1.73 m2) is also included. Exclusions apply to those with GFR outside these ranges, history of kidney transplant, certain heart conditions, pregnancy, lactation, allergies to Definity®, or pulmonary hypertension.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if monitoring renal blood flow using contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEU) can predict the risk of contrast induced nephropathy after a coronary angiogram in patients with varying levels of kidney function.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects may include allergic reactions to the perflutren used in CEU and risks associated with volume expansion such as fluid overload. The procedure itself carries standard risks linked to coronary angiograms.

Frequently Asked Questions

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound a well-studied medical technique?

"Presently, 19 clinical trials are examining Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound and 1 of them is in its 3rd phase. While Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has the most trials for this medical procedure, there are 26 research sites in total spread across multiple states."

Answered by AI

What is the total number of participants in this medical experiment?

"This trial is not currently in need of recruitment. It was initially posted on February 1st 2012, and last updated December 18th 2013. If you are seeking other trials, 123 opportunities exist for individuals with acute kidney injury while 19 studies focus on Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound searches for participants."

Does this research undertaking currently have any unfilled positions?

"This particular trial is currently not accepting recruitments, having last been modified on December 18th 2013. For those looking for similar studies, there are 123 medical trials recruiting patients with acute kidney injury and 19 Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound clinical tests actively seeking participants."

Answered by AI

What clinical issues does Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound commonly address?

"Through the use of Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound, echocardiography can be aided. This type of imaging also has potential applications in addressing cardiovascular issues and aiding diagnoses for left ventricular problems."
