What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The overarching goal of this work is to determine methods that improve caregiver education about the behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPSD) of dementia. The specific goal of this project is to extend our prior work to evaluate the impact of our educational intervention on caregivers' ability to transfer knowledge about the management of ADRD to real-world applied examples.

Inclusion Criteria

Informal caregivers
Ability to read and speak English
Remote participants need access to a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer to complete tasks.

Exclusion Criteria

Professional caregivers
Former caregivers who are not currently caring for someone living with dementia
Caregivers providing assistance to someone with normal cognition

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

1-2 weeks
1 visit (in-person or virtual)

Intervention

Caregivers participate in structured retrieval practice (SRP) intervention and restudy control condition

1 session
1 visit (in-person or virtual)

Immediate Testing

Immediate near transfer and applied transfer tests conducted approximately 10 minutes post-intervention

10 minutes
1 visit (in-person or virtual)

Delayed Testing

Delayed knowledge, near transfer, and applied transfer tests conducted 2 days post-intervention

2 days post-intervention
1 visit (in-person or virtual)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for knowledge retention and application effectiveness
