Effectiveness

How Zymaxid Affects Patients

Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic that is taken by mouth or through an IV. It works by blocking a bacterial enzyme called DNA gyrase, which helps the bacteria to make copies of its DNA. Gatifloxacin is especially effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It should only be used to treat or prevent bacterial infections.

How Zymaxid works in the body

Gatifloxacin kills bacteria by blocking the enzymes needed for them to copy and repair their DNA.

Zymaxid for Pink Eye from Bacterial Infection

I tore my cornea and this was prescribed to me in order to stave off infection. It worked for that purpose, but I did notice the listed side-effect of a sour taste in my mouth. Eating helps get rid of the aftertaste somewhat, but all in all this drug did what it was supposed to do.
