How Zymaxid Affects PatientsGatifloxacin is an antibiotic that is taken by mouth or through an IV. It works by blocking a bacterial enzyme called DNA gyrase, which helps the bacteria to make copies of its DNA. Gatifloxacin is especially effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It should only be used to treat or prevent bacterial infections.

Zymaxid for Pink Eye from Bacterial Infection

I tore my cornea and this was prescribed to me in order to stave off infection. It worked for that purpose, but I did notice the listed side-effect of a sour taste in my mouth. Eating helps get rid of the aftertaste somewhat, but all in all this drug did what it was supposed to do.
