What is Vaseretic

HydrochlorothiazideThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryEnalapril is a medication used to treat high blood pressure. It belongs to a class of drugs called ACE inhibitors, which work by blocking the production of a hormone called angiotensin II, resulting in lower blood pressure. Enalapril is also used to treat heart failure and other conditions related to the heart. The drug is sold under the brand name Vasotec and is available as an oral tablet or an intravenous injection. It was first approved by the FDA in 1985 and is sometimes found in a combination product with hydrochlorothiazide, another drug used to treat high blood pressure.

Effectiveness

How Vaseretic Affects PatientsEnalapril is a medication used to lower blood pressure. It works by reducing the amount of fluid in the body, reducing the amount of resistance in the blood vessels, and preventing the heart rate from increasing. It can take several weeks of regular use to see a full effect. Enalapril can improve both preload and afterload in patients with severe congestive heart failure, as well as reduce left ventricular mass without affecting cardiac function or myocardial perfusion during exercise. It does not usually cause side effects like low potassium levels, high blood sugar, high uric acid, or high cholesterol. In the kidneys
How Vaseretic works in the bodyEnalapril works on the body's renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. It inhibits an enzyme called ACE, which reduces the production of a hormone called angiotensin II. This hormone causes blood vessels to narrow and increases salt retention in the kidneys. With less angiotensin II, the blood vessels widen, which lowers blood pressure. Enalapril might also increase levels of bradykinin, another hormone, which could help lower blood pressure. However, this hasn't been proven yet.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Vaseretic is contingent upon the diagnosed issue, including asymptomatic Left ventricular dysfunction, blood pressure inadequately managed with monotherapy and Hypertensive disease. The dosage is contingent upon the delivery technique noted in the table below.

Vaseretic Toxicity & Overdose RiskEnalapril is toxic in large doses. In rats, the oral LD50 is 2973 mg/kg and lethality was observed with single doses greater than 1000 mg/kg in mice and 1775 mg/kg in rats. Overdosing on enalapril can cause marked low blood pressure, fatigue, dizziness, stupor, and a cough. To treat an overdose, intravenous saline may be administered, and hemodialysis can be used to remove enalapril from the bloodstream. In rabbits, doses of 1 mg/kg/day or more of enalapril
