Effectiveness

How Tricor Affects PatientsFenofibrate is a type of drug used to treat high cholesterol, mixed fat levels, and severe high triglycerides in the blood. It is generally taken once per day and its effects can last between 19-27 hours. The drug is usually taken at a dose of 50-150mg daily and has a wide therapeutic index, meaning it is relatively safe. However, patients should be aware of the possible risks such as muscle breakdown, muscle pain, and gallstones.
How Tricor works in the bodyFenofibrate works by activating a receptor in your cells known as PPARα. This triggers the breakdown of fat, increases the activity of lipoprotein lipase, and reduces the amount of a certain protein. Activating PPARα also causes your cells to produce peroxisomes which contain hydrogen peroxide, oxygen molecules, and hydroxyl radicals which aid in fat breakdown. This increased fat metabolism can place stress on the liver, which in rare cases can lead to cirrhosis and chronic active hepatitis.

Tricor for Combined High Blood Cholesterol and Triglyceride Level
I've been on Tricor for a long time now, and it has done wonders for my triglyceride levels. They were once over 500 but are now down to 100. The drug is highly effective with few to no side effects.

Tricor for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
I was first prescribed Tricor in September 2013. I had been taking statins prior and stopped because I experienced muscle weakness each time; however, my new doctor put me on Tricor. Unfortunately, after only five days of taking the 145 mg pills, I could not raise myself off the toilet! My leg muscles just wouldn't cooperate. Thankfully, I stopped taking the pills immediately and my muscles returned to normal within a few days.

My triglyceride levels stayed down while I was taking this medication; however, my new doctor took me off of it and now my levels have gone up again. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Tricor for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
This treatment was very effective in reducing my triglyceride levels. However, I did have some negative side effects like gall bladder removal and chronic aches and pains.

Tricor for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
I wish I had known about the potential side effect of gallstones before taking this medication. I ended up having to have emergency surgery as a result of a huge gallstone that caused gangrene in my gallbladder. Thankfully, my doctor said that since I don't have a gallbladder anymore, this shouldn't be a problem. Changing my diet has also helped keep my triglyceride levels low for years. It's hard to know if it was "only" the drug or all of my lifestyle changes that made the difference, but either way, I'm glad I made the changes.

Tricor for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
I recently realized that one of the side effects of this medication is gallbladder problems. I wonder if this is why I had agallbladder attack. The medication did reduce my triglyceride somewhat, but I don't know if it's worth the risk of developing gallbladder problems.

I only took a quarter of the pill because I know how sensitive I am to medication, and even that resulted in severe stomach pain, nausea, heavy bloating, fatigue, and orange urine. The pains in my hips and back were also very tearing and twisty.

I had a terrible reaction to Tricor, only two weeks in. If you experience any itching or hives, go to the hospital right away! I'm still feeling the effects and it's been incredibly uncomfortable. Luckily I was able to stop taking the medicine, but now I'm struggling with chest and back pains.
