If you are an adult, put one drop of this medication into your conjunctival sac(s) every 4 to 6 hours while you are awake. For the first 24 to 48 hours, you may need to put a drop in every 2 hours while you are awake. Use this medication for 14 days, but do not use it for more than 24 days.

How Tobradex Affects Patients

Tobramycin is an antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections, such as those caused by _Enterobacteriaceae_, _Escherichia coli_, _Klebsiella pneumoniae_, and _Pseudomonas aeruginosa_. It also works on some Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant strains. Taking too much tobramycin can cause kidney or ear damage, muscle weakness, or hearing loss in unborn babies. It can also cause allergic reactions, including severe skin reactions.

How Tobradex works in the body

Tobramycin works by damaging bacteria's cell membranes and preventing them from making proteins. It does this by binding to the cell's ribosome, which is responsible for making proteins. This binding blocks the ribosome from making new proteins and also disrupts the cell membrane, which allows more of the tobramycin into the cell. Bacteria can build up a resistance to tobramycin by modifying the ribosome or the tobramycin itself, which makes the drug less effective. Tobramycin is only effective against certain types of bacteria, such as Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria.
