Effectiveness

How Timoptic Affects PatientsTimolol is a drug that can be used to quickly lower pressure inside the eyes, as well as reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and sympathetic activity. It starts working about 20 minutes after an ophthalmic dose and can last up to 24 hours if given in a 0.5% or 0.25% dose.
How Timoptic works in the bodyTimolol blocks certain receptors in the heart, blood vessels and bronchial muscles, which helps lower blood pressure. It also reduces the production of aqueous humor in the eye, likely by decreasing the blood supply to the ciliary body or interfering with prostaglandin synthesis.

When to interrupt dosage

The suggested measure of Timoptic is determined by the diagnosed condition, such as Open Angle Glaucoma, requiring additional or substitution treatment and Ocular Hypertension. The amount of dosage differs based on the method of administration (e.g. Ophthalmic or Solution, gel forming / drops) as shown in the table below.

Timoptic for High Eye Pressure or Glaucoma that May Worsen without Treatment
My doctor was pleased to see my blood pressure drop from 28 to 21 within two months. However, I started experiencing daily lethargy and extreme foot pain, cold feet and hands. When I reported these symptoms to him, he told me to stop taking the medication immediately. We are trying another drug but the foot pain has not subsided in 2 weeks.

Timoptic for Closed Angle Glaucoma
I've been using this treatment for a little over three months now. I had used it before but stopped because it burned, however other drugs haven't been effective so I had to start again. It's made my breathing more labored and still burns; on top of that, it also makes me nauseated. Hopefully I can find something else soon that will be more effective with fewer side effects.
