Effectiveness

How Neomycin And Polymyxin B Sulfates And Hydrocortisone Affects Patients

Neomycin is an antibiotic that helps stop the growth and survival of certain types of bacteria. Its effects can last up to 72 hours, and it has been used to treat hepatic coma and reduce the amount of ammonia produced by bacteria in the colon. It works on both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, including some strains of E. coli, Klebsiella, and Proteus. While neomycin can be effective, some resistant strains may develop over time. It does not work against fungi or protozoa.

How Neomycin And Polymyxin B Sulfates And Hydrocortisone works in the body

Neomycin is an antibiotic that prevents bacteria from making proteins. It works by attaching itself to the ribosomes of susceptible bacteria, which are necessary for making proteins. This prevents the bacteria from reproducing and spreading.

I started this treatment last Tuesday, and there's been very little improvement. The anti-inflammatory pills the doctor prescribed didn't help at all, so I stopped taking them. I've switched back to over-the-counter Advil gel tabs, which have helped a little bit. I've also noticed some hearing loss from the drops, which is concerning. Hopefully it's just a side effect of the infection and not something permanent.

All Sexes
Bozeman, MT

The purpose of this clinical trial is to determine how certain food items affect oxidative stress, inflammation, and performance recovery from exercise induced muscle damage in a resistance trained population. The main questions The investigators aim to answer are the following: * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of oxidative stress and inflammation markers after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of performance measures after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * The data collected in this investigation may also be used to ask additional questions not yet identified. For example, the investigators may use the stored samples to evaluate how the blood metabolites of participants differ before and after intense exercise. These additional questions are called secondary analyses. Please note that no genetic analysis will be conducted and racial and ethnic differences among participants will not be used in any secondary analyses. Researches will compare Haskap juice to a color, flavor and carbohydrate matched placebo to see if Haskaps speed recovery in inflammation, oxidative stress and performance. * Participants will be asked to drink either Haskap juice or placebo and follow a low polyphenolic diet * Participants will perform an intense resistance workout * Participants will have their blood drawn before and after the workout * Performance will be analyzed at 24, 48 and 72 hours after the workout

Antibiotic Carriers for Breast Reconstruction

18+
Female
Sacramento, CA

Infections after tissue expander breast reconstruction can lead to pain, additional surgeries, and loss of the reconstruction. This study will compare two types of antibiotic carriers used during surgery to help lower the risk of infection. One carrier is a non-absorbable PMMA disc, and the other is an absorbable antibiotic bead. Both release antibiotics directly into the breast pocket after surgery. About 100 patients will be randomly assigned to receive one of these two carriers at the time of tissue expander placement. After surgery, small samples of fluid around the tissue expander will be collected during routine clinic visits. These samples will be tested to measure how much antibiotic is present over time. The study will also track infections, tissue expander loss, and other complications during the first 90 days after surgery. The goal is to learn how much antibiotic each carrier delivers and whether one method is more effective at preventing infection.

Tailored Recommendations for Infant Gut Microbiome

No minimum age - 3
All Sexes
Austin, TX

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether microbiome analysis, education, and personalized recommendations can improve gut health and reduce early markers of immune-related conditions in infants aged 0-3 months delivered via Cesarean section. The study aims to determine whether these interventions can increase beneficial bacteria, decrease C-section-associated microbiome signatures, reduce opportunistic pathogens, and improve functional potential for HMO digestion and SCFA production. The study also seeks to assess whether improvements in microbiome composition are associated with a reduced prevalence of early atopic symptoms. Researchers will compare three groups: a full intervention arm that receives microbiome reports, coaching, personalized recommendations, and educational materials; a limited intervention arm that receives simplified reports and basic recommendations; and a control arm that receives no results until study completion. This design allows evaluation of both a comprehensive intervention and a more scalable, minimal-results model. Participants will: 1. Provide six microbiome stool samples over a 24-month period. 2. Provide additional small stool samples at two timepoints for exploratory metabolomic analysis. 3. Receive microbiome reports and guidance according to their assigned study arm. 4. Complete surveys on infant health history, symptoms, diet, and environmental exposures. 5. Participate in standardized eczema assessment(s) administered by a Nurse Practitioner and evaluated by a Pediatric Allergy Specialist if any symptoms are reported. This study seeks to demonstrate that targeted microbiome support can positively shift gut microbial development in C-section infants and may reduce risks linked to the early stages of the atopic march. Findings may inform scalable strategies for delivering microbiome-based support in early life and improve long-term health outcomes for this high-risk population.

VR-Enhanced PMR for Post-Burn Symptoms

18+
All Sexes
Baltimore, MD

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), delivered either alone or enhanced with virtual reality (VR), can help treat chronic symptom, such as pain, itch, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and fatigue, in adult burn survivors. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does VR-enhanced PMR (VR-PMR) reduce chronic pain, anxiety, itch, sleep disturbances, and fatigue more effectively than standard PMR? * Is VR-PMR a feasible and acceptable self-administered home-based intervention for burn survivors? Researchers will compare two self-administered intervention conditions, VR-enhanced PMR and standard PMR, using a randomized to sequence crossover design to see if VR technology enhances the therapeutic effects of PMR on chronic symptom management in burn survivors. Participants will: * Complete home-based sessions of VR-enhanced PMR * Complete home-based sessions of standard PMR * Report symptoms such as pain, itch, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and fatigue throughout the study * Use VR equipment provided for the intervention period (during the VR-PMR arm)

Mediterranean Diet for Toddler Health

24 - 36
All Sexes
Fredericton, Canada

Toddlerhood (ages 2-3) is a critical window when the gut microbiome is still developing and eating habits are being established. Yet, many Canadian toddlers eat diets high in sugar and salt, which may affect long-term health. This study will test whether a MED diet can improve dietary inflammation, gut health, and body composition in toddlers and whether a tailored nutrition education program for parents can help families maintain healthy eating patterns. In this study, toddlers will be randomly assigned to a 3-week MED diet or their usual diet. Families in the MED diet group will receive free meal boxes for the 3 weeks, plus guidance from a nutrition researcher through a structured education program. The standard diet group will continue their regular diet with general nutrition advice. Researchers will collect dietary information, body composition assessments, and stool samples to measure gut microbiome composition and metabolites. This first study of a controlled diet intervention in toddlers, combining behavioral support, high-quality food provision, and advanced gut microbiome analysis, will help understand how early diet shapes lifelong eating habits and health, guiding public health strategies and precision nutrition approaches to prevent chronic disease from early life.

Peer Support Program for Traumatic Injury

18+
All Sexes
Toronto, Canada

Traumatic injuries from events like car crashes, falls, or fires are a leading cause of disability. Survivors often face not only physical challenges but also long-lasting pain, mental health challenges and difficulty returning to work and family life. Although medical care focuses on physical recovery, survivors frequently report that their emotional and social needs are overlooked and unmet. Peer support-guidance from people who have lived through similar injuries-can reduce distress and improve coping. However, no programs in Canada currently provide peer support to trauma survivors across their recovery journey, from hospital to rehabilitation to community living. The investigators worked with trauma survivors, caregivers, and healthcare providers to co-design a Peer Support Program (PSP) that offers support throughout these stages. This pilot study will test whether the program is feasible and acceptable, and explore its early impact on recovery. Results will guide a future larger trial to expand peer support in trauma care.

MITI-001 for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

18 - 65
All Sexes
Redwood City, CA

While the pathophysiology of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is complex and heterogeneous, dysbiosis of the gut microbiome is frequently observed, suggesting that a substantial subset of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have symptoms that are initiated and/or perpetuated by a microbiome dysfunction. Successful randomized controlled trials (RCT) for IBS-D (Ford 2018; Black 2022) leveraging microbiome-targeted therapies (antibiotics or low microbiome fermentation diets) suggest the gut microbiome is at least partially involved in IBS symptoms. Furthermore, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for patients with IBS-D has demonstrated promising results (El-Salhy 2020), supporting the possibility that altering the microbiome composition could ameliorate IBS-D symptoms. MITI-001 is a transplantable gut bacterial community composed of 157 live bacterial strains, encompassing 79 genera of commensal bacteria, that have been isolated from healthy donor stool, purified, and banked. The hypothesis of the proposed research is that MITI-001 can target the pathophysiologic lesion in a subset of IBS-D patients, restore the altered microbial metabolic process, and thus alleviate IBS-D symptoms.
