What is Iodotope

Iodide I-131

The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Iodide I-131 (also known as Sodium iodide I-131) is a radioactive drug used to treat thyroid cancer and thyroid diseases. It works by emitting radiation that kills cells in the targeted area. The thyroid gland naturally absorbs iodine in the body, so this drug is used to target cancerous cells. Iodide I-131 is used to treat hyperthyroidism, thyroid carcinomas, and to perform a radioactive iodide (RAI) uptake test to evaluate thyroid function. It can also be used to reduce symptoms of advanced thyroid cancer.

Effectiveness

How Iodotope Affects Patients

Sodium iodide I-131 is used to treat thyroid-related issues. The medication works by sending radiation to the thyroid tissue, which damages molecules and causes them to break apart. The radiation is made up of 90% beta radiation and 10% gamma radiation.

How Iodotope works in the body

Sodium iodide I-131 is a medication taken by mouth. Once ingested, it is absorbed into the body and moves to the thyroid gland. It is then converted to iodine and emits beta radiation, which destroys thyroid tissue.

When to interrupt dosage

The suggested measure of Iodotope is contingent upon the diagnosed disorder, including Thyroid Carcinoma, radioactive iodide uptake test and Thyroid Gland. The dosage fluctuates as per the method of administration specified in the table beneath.

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I'm not sure if it's the medication or something else, but I've been feeling really nauseous lately. I called the nurse and she wasn't able to give me a clear answer. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I was really surprised to learn that if you don't take your thyroid medication, it can be fatal. I had no idea.

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I've been treating my hashimoto's with this medication for five years now, and it's done wonders. I originally started on 50 mcg, but over time my dosage has increased to 88 mcg (with 100 mcg being too high). It would be nice if there was a 6 mcg dose available for people like me who fall in between the standard doses, since I only weigh 118 lb.

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I've been on this medication since 2008 and I haven't seen my doctor monitor it since. In that time, I've had major mood swings, depression, weight gain, worsening seborrheic dermatitis, and zero energy. I need to either see a new doctor or get put on a different medication.

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I took this treatment for one month and felt great. I missed the second month because I didn't have the money, and started up again recently. However, now I'm still tired ALL the time.

Iodotope for Underactive Thyroid

I had great results with this thyroid medication and no negative side effects, which is more than I can say for other similar medications I've tried. Unfortunately, it was taken off the market and I have been feeling ill ever since. If anyone knows where I could get my hands on this medication again, please let me know.

I had open heart surgery five years ago. Ever since I started taking this medication, I have been having chest pain, sweating a lot, high blood pressure, sudden drops in sugar levels, and most recently swelling and redness in my face. This has been going on for about a year now.
