It was first discovered in the 1980s and was licensed by Cubist Pharmaceuticals in 1997. Daptomycin was approved by the FDA in 2003 and is marketed under the name CUBICIN®. It is a cyclic lipopeptide made up of 13 amino acids, including some non-standard and D-amino acids. A once-

How Cubicin Affects Patients
Daptomycin is a type of antibiotic made by a soil microbe. It is mainly used to treat infections caused by certain types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridioides difficile. It works by killing the bacteria that cause the infection. While it is generally safe to use, there are some side effects and risks associated with taking daptomycin. These include muscle problems, an increased risk of developing resistance to the antibiotic, and an increased risk of developing severe hypersensitivity reactions. It is not recommended for use in patients under one year of age due to potential serious side effects
How Cubicin works in the body
Daptomycin works by binding to the cell membrane and altering its structure. It binds to calcium, which helps it attach to the cell membrane, particularly in areas where there is a lot of phosphatidylglycerol. This binding alters the fluidity of the membrane, which prevents enzymes that make up the cell wall from working properly. It can also disrupt the cell's ability to divide, which leads to its death. In some cases, it causes an imbalance of potassium and other ions in the cell, leading to a loss of energy and nutrients. All of these effects result in the death of the cell.
When to interrupt dosage
The recommended measure of Cubicin depends on the diagnosed situation, such as Communicable Diseases, Staphylococcus Aureus Bloodstream Infections (BSI; Bacteremia) and Bacterial Endocarditis. The dose differs in accordance with the delivery approach (e.g. Powder, for solution - Intravenous or Injection, powder, lyophilized, for solution - Intravenous) presented in the following table.

Description
Vibrio cholerae CVD 103-HgR strain live antigen
Major
The therapeutic efficacy of Vibrio cholerae CVD 103-HgR strain live antigen can be decreased when used in combination with Daptomycin.
Abacavir
Minor
Daptomycin may decrease the excretion rate of Abacavir which could result in a higher serum level.
Acetaminophen
Minor
Daptomycin may decrease the excretion rate of Acetaminophen which could result in a higher serum level.
Aclidinium
Minor
Daptomycin may decrease the excretion rate of Aclidinium which could result in a higher serum level.
Acrivastine
Minor
Daptomycin may decrease the excretion rate of Acrivastine which could result in a higher serum level.
Cubicin Toxicity & Overdose Risk
Overdosing on daptomycin may cause a variety of serious side effects, including muscle pain, breakdown of muscle tissue, neurological symptoms, allergic pneumonia, kidney inflammation, and other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, fever, sweating, and itchiness. Treatment for daptomycin overdose should focus on providing supportive care, and dialysis may be used to remove some of the drug from the body. However, this method is not very effective as only around 15% of a dose can be removed over four hours of hemodialysis.
