Effectiveness
How Axid Ar Affects PatientsNizatidine is a drug that blocks the action of histamine, a chemical in the body, on stomach cells. This helps to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Nizatidine does not have any anti-androgenic effects. Usually, treatment with nizatidine lasts no more than 8 weeks. After an active duodenal ulcer has healed, a lower dose of nizatidine may be used as ongoing maintenance therapy.
How Axid Ar works in the bodyNizatidine stops stomach acid from forming. It does this by blocking histamine from binding to receptors on the walls of stomach cells, which keeps acid from being released. As a result, stomach acid production is reduced during both normal and stimulated activity, like eating food.
