Phentermine

The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Phentermine is a medication used to treat obesity. It was first introduced in 1959 and became popular in 1960. It is a chemical relative of amphetamine, but is not known to be addictive and has been classified as a drug with low abuse potential. Phentermine was approved for short-term weight management in 1959, but it was later discontinued after reports of abnormal valve growth in nearly 30% of consumers. In 2012, phentermine was approved alone and in combination with topiramate for a new weight loss treatment that requires lower doses of phentermine.

How Adipex-P Affects Patients

Phentermine is a drug used to help with weight loss. It works by reducing appetite and increasing resting energy expenditure. Studies have shown that people taking phentermine lose an average of 3.6 kg over 2-24 weeks, and can maintain the weight loss after treatment is stopped. Unlike other amphetamines, phentermine does not cause any stimulation, elevated blood pressure, or other side effects.

How Adipex-P works in the body

Phentermine works by releasing a chemical called noradrenaline in the brain. This chemical stimulates certain receptors in the body, creating a "fight-or-flight" response which suppresses the hunger signal. It also weakly inhibits a chemical called monoamine oxidase, though this doesn't have a major effect.

When to interrupt dosage

The prescribed dose of Adipex-P is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, including Regime of weight reduction, Hyperlipidemia and Type 2 Diabetes. The quantity of dosage is dependent upon the technique of delivery (e.g. Oral or Tablet) as stated in the table below.

Adipex-P for Weight Loss Management for an Obese Person

I started this treatment when I was 18 years old, and it really helped me lose weight. I didn't have any major side effects, other than feeling thirsty and my heart rate being pretty fast at times. Unfortunately, I gained the weight back after a year of college. But I'm starting the treatment again now and am hopeful that I'll be able to lose the weight and keep it off this time around.

Adipex has been a godsend. It completely suppressed my appetite and helped me lose 46lbs in just two months. I'm excited to see how much more weight I can lose now that I've started taking it again.

Adipex-P for Overweight

I took this years ago and it was very effective. I went from 193 pounds to 119 pounds within several months while following a 1200 calorie diet and doing short workouts 2-3 days per week. I was able to keep the weight off for 8 years by halving the dose and taking the pill every 2-3 days for 30 days.

Adipex-P for Overweight

I've been doing this meditation for about a month now, and I've already lost 21 pounds! When I first started, I had some side effects, but they went away after a little while. I'm really hoping to lose another 128 pounds, but even if I don't, I'm still happy with the progress I've made so far.

Adipex-P for Weight Loss Management for Overweight Person with BMI 27 to 29 and Weight-Related Comorbidity

This medication was incredibly effective for me. I started at 238lbs and after three weeks of taking it, I had already lost 20lbs. However, I would not recommend taking it later than 8am as it will make it hard to sleep at night. Other than that, I've been really happy with the results and am currently on my second round.

Adipex-P for Adjunct Treatment of Obesity in a Comprehensive Weight Reduction Regimen

I started this medication to lose weight because my extra weight was causing knee and foot pain. I started at 176lbs and after 2 1/2 months I am at 156. I have lost 20lbs with this medication along with daily exercise and nutrition. I have no thyroid and had not been able to lose weight before. The down side of this medication has been dry mouth, constipation, insomnia at first, and feeling like I have had too much caffeine; however, the pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion!

Adipex-P for Weight Loss Management for Overweight Person with BMI 27 to 29 and Weight-Related Comorbidity

Adipex was a great help to me when I lost 110 pounds. Now, years later, I've kept the weight off and even lost more. However, my doctor had a problem with how long I took it for, so I stopped taking it for a few months. Starting again to make it a better experience.

Adipex-P for Weight Loss Management for an Obese Person

This pill helped me to lose weight by decreasing my appetite, but it's been difficult to exercise in the heat this summer. In 10 weeks, I've lost 10lbs while drinking a lot of water and sticking to a diet. I'm also taking Lipo BC which is supposed to help burn fat, but I haven't seen any results from that yet. Any suggestions?

Pharmacist-led Care for Diabetes

18+
All Sexes
Edmonton, Canada

As of 2024, nine percent of Albertans are living with Type 2 diabetes, which increases their risk for cardiovascular disease, stroke, blindness, and kidney failure. Unfortunately, less than half of patients have controlled Type 2 diabetes. We are well aware of the factors which lead to worsening diabetes, but need to give people more support to help them manage their diabetes. Pharmacists are respected health care professionals who are often easier to see that doctors and can help people with diabetes to stay as healthy as possible. This research project aims to see whether a pharmacist service can help improve diabetes management in people with type 2 diabetes compared to usual care from their family physician or nurse practitionner. The potential impact of this project is to empower people with type 2 diabetes to understand their condition, it's management, and to achieve target blood sugar levels, which will ultimately reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if a natural supplement called 2-hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA) can reduce harmful oxidized lipids and improve the function of lipoprotein(a) in adults with high lipoprotein(a) levels. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does 2-HOBA lower oxidized phospholipids on lipoprotein(a)? Does 2-HOBA reduce markers of inflammation and blood clotting in the blood? Participants will: Take 2-HOBA capsules (400 mg, three times daily with meals) for 6 weeks Provide blood and urine samples at the beginning, middle, and end of the study Have lab tests to measure changes in lipids, inflammation, and clotting markers

The objective of this study is to pilot a multifaceted, optimized intervention for metabolic syndrome (MetS) in emergency department patients to establish feasibility. Participants (n=20) will be randomized to intervention or control (usual care). The composite intervention will include an educational video outlining the adverse effects of MetS and the benefit of walking, a written exercise prescription with a defined goal of walking 150 minutes per week, a Fitbit accelerometer device, resources for healthy eating practices, periodic text message reminders, and an urgent referral to primary care and our health system's Healthy Me clinic for follow-up visit. Investigators hypothesize that this approach will change patient understanding and motivation to increase physical activity and healthy eating habits.

Cardiometabolic Prevention Clinic for Cardiovascular Disease

Durham, NC

This project is studying whether a team-based specialty clinic can help people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease better manage their blood pressure and cholesterol. The clinic includes coordinated care from heart doctors, kidney doctors, diabetes specialists, and liver doctors. The study will compare two groups of patients: one receiving usual care from their primary care provider, and one referred to the Duke Cardiometabolic Prevention Clinic for multidisciplinary care. The main goals are to find out if this clinic improves blood pressure and cholesterol control over 12 months, increases use of recommended heart medications, and reduces hospital visits and other healthcare use. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. Those referred to the clinic will: 1) Meet with a cardiologist for an initial evaluation. 2) Be referred to other specialists (such as endocrinology, nephrology, or hepatology) based on their needs. 3) Receive ongoing, coordinated care from a team of specialists working together to improve their heart and metabolic health.
