Simulated Environment for Virtual Reality Therapy
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores whether virtual reality (VR) can aid individuals in reintegrating into their communities after a hospital stay. The aim is to determine if rehab specialists will increasingly use VR for community reintegration therapy. Participants include those who were in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, can walk at least 10 feet, and are returning home after rehab. It is intended for individuals who have already experienced the VR environment during their stay. As an unphased trial, this study offers participants the opportunity to contribute to innovative research that could enhance rehabilitation practices.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.
What prior data suggests that this simulated environment is safe for community reintegration treatments?
Past studies have used virtual reality (VR) safely in physical and occupational therapy. Research shows that VR offers a safe space for therapy exercises, helping patients improve their skills without real-world risks.
One study found that VR therapy allows patients to gradually face feared or challenging situations safely. These studies have reported no serious side effects.
Overall, research indicates that VR in therapy is well-tolerated and safe.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about using virtual reality therapy in simulated environments for community reintegration because it offers a unique, immersive experience that traditional physical and occupational therapy can't match. Unlike conventional therapies, which often take place in clinical settings, virtual reality allows patients to practice real-world skills in a safe, controlled environment. This method can help individuals build confidence and improve their functional abilities more effectively by simulating everyday challenges they may face. Additionally, the engaging nature of virtual reality can boost motivation and adherence to therapy, potentially leading to better outcomes.
What evidence suggests that this simulated environment is effective for community reintegration?
Research has shown that virtual reality (VR) therapy can help people better handle real-life situations. For example, VR sessions have improved understanding, attitudes, and empathy. One study found VR helpful for treating mental health issues like phobias and PTSD. VR therapy also shows promise for treating social anxiety by offering a safe and controlled setting. In this trial, participants will experience community reintegration in a simulated environment using VR. These findings suggest that VR could benefit community reintegration by improving adaptation and interaction with others.678910

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults over 18 who can walk a bit and read English. They must have used a simulated environment during their stay in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and be going home after rehab. People under 18, non-English readers, those not ambulatory for medical reasons, or with low cognitive scores are excluded.Inclusion Criteria
