What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if two tools, MyCarePulse and ASCENT, can help cancer patients overcome barriers to care, particularly in areas like food security and healthy eating habits. Researchers seek to understand whether patients using these tools feel more confident in their dietary choices and experience better diet quality compared to those receiving standard care. The trial is suitable for adults diagnosed with certain types of cancer, such as colorectal, prostate, or breast cancer, within the last year, who can read and speak English, and live in Florida. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research focused on improving cancer care and support.

Do I need to stop taking my current medications to join the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that the MyCarePulse and ASCENT patient navigator intervention is safe for cancer patients?

Research has shown that programs like the ASCENT Patient Navigator are generally easy for patients to handle. A review of studies found these programs helpful in cancer treatment, with few reports of negative effects. Past research has not linked MyCarePulse, another part of this trial, to major safety issues. Although this trial phase doesn't focus on safety, these programs aim to help patients manage their care rather than provide medical treatments, making them less likely to cause harm.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the MyCarePulse and ASCENT PN trial because it explores innovative ways to support cancer patients beyond standard medical treatments. Unlike typical cancer treatments that focus solely on medication or surgery, MyCarePulse is a digital tool that helps identify patients' needs, while ASCENT PN connects them to patient navigators for personalized support. This approach could enhance patient care by addressing emotional and logistical challenges, potentially leading to better overall outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients.

What evidence suggests that the MyCarePulse and ASCENT patient navigator intervention could be effective for cancer patients?

Research has shown that patient navigation can greatly assist cancer patients. About 70% of patients who received this support began their cancer treatments more smoothly. Patient navigation removes obstacles to care and organizes services, leading to better health outcomes. In this trial, participants will be divided into two groups: one group will receive the ASCENT Patient Navigator intervention alongside the MyCarePulse tool, while the other group will use MyCarePulse without the ASCENT intervention for comparison. The MyCarePulse and ASCENT program aims to improve access to healthy food and diet quality by offering personalized support. Overall, these efforts have shown promise in enhancing patient well-being and making care more accessible.12467
