This study will examine the effectiveness of a 7-minute informational video using the threat and coping components of the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) reduces alcohol intention and behaviour among young Canadian adults. Our aim is to determine whether perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, response efficacy and self-efficacy are associated with goal intentions to reduce drinking alcohol, and whether goals intentions to reduce alcohol drinking are associated with actual reductions in alcohol use among this population. Participants will be randomized to view either a specific PMT-video or a non-specific video on coffee and then complete questionnaires that relate to the PMT constructs. Intention and behaviour to drink alcohol will be compared between the two conditions over a 4-week period.

Plant-based milk alternatives (PBMAs) are a popular alternative to cow's milk. The different types of PBMAs on the market shelf include almond, oat, soy, coconut, cashew, pea, hemp, and rice. Among these, PBMA made from almonds, oats and soy are the most popular in North America. Though PBMAs are designed to mimic cow's milk in terms of color, they often have a very different nutrition profile. In order to better substitute for cow's milk, PBMAs often have added vitamins and minerals, as well as added sugars and flavorings to improve flavor. This study will test how well certain nutrients (vitamin D, calcium, potassium, and magnesium) are absorbed by the body after intake of milk and PBMAs. Nutrient absorption will be measured using blood samples after short term intake (from 1 hours to 1 week) of almond, soy, and oat milk, and compare it to cow's milk. Participants in the study will avoid all fluid dairy products and vitamin-D supplemented foods for three weeks and then be asked to consume either almond, soy, oat, or cow's milk for one week. All participants will visit the Clinical Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) four times over the course of about one month. These visits include a screening and pre-study visit (1.5 hrs), a pick-up visit (30 min), one long study day visit (\~11 hours), and two shorter follow up study day visits (1 hr).

The goal of this research study is to increase understanding of error augmentation by applying it to visual feedback during motion tracking with a Leap Motion device - a recently developed optical hand tracking tool - and the LookingGlass - a new, portable virtual reality environment. In conjunction with the Leap, large, three dimensional work spaces can provide an immersive and virtual augmented environment for rehabilitation. Previously, experiments have utilized the Virtual Reality Robotic and Optical Operations Machine (VRROOM) to create such visually immersive environments. The Robotics lab as part of the Arms and Hands Lab on the 22nd floor of the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab has developed a portable version of this system, which is more compact and clinic-compatible. Combining this visual 3D system with the Leap creates a novel, more capable apparatus for studying error augmentation. This research study will have 3 different arms: 1.) a healthy group of individuals (Healthy Arm), 2.) a group of stroke survivors within 8 months of stroke (Acute Arm), and 3.) a group of stroke survivors that had their stroke more than 8 months ago (Chronic Arm). Each Arm will use the Leap motion tracker and the Looking Glass to participate in a reaching intervention. The healthy arm will only participate in 1 visit with an intervention with and without error augmented visual feedback. The Acute Arm and the Chronic Arm will both have 2 groups: 1.) Error Augmented Visual Feedback group and 2.) Non-Augmented or Veridical Visual Feedback group. The Chronic Arm will have a structured intervention and evaluation protocol: Study staff will administer outcome assessments at 3 time points: a.) prior to intervention, b.) post intervention, and c.) 2 months after the conclusion of intervention. Intervention will occur over the span of 6-8 weeks with the goal of 3 1-hour sessions per week. The Acute Arm will have a less structured intervention that will occur while the participant is an inpatient at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Study staff will administer outcome assessments at at least 2 time points: a.) prior to intervention, b.) post intervention just prior to discharge from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Between initial and post intervention evaluations, midpoint evaluations will take place at a maximum of once per week if the participant's schedule, activity tolerance, and length of stay allows. Intervention will consist of 1-hour sessions occurring according to the availability of the participant at the rate of no more than 2 sessions in a 24 hour period. Investigators hope to investigate these questions: 1. Can the movement of healthy individuals be characterized with error augmented visual feedback and veridical visual feedback? 2. Will error augmented visual feedback or veridical visual feedback result in greater movement ability improvement? Investigators hypothesize that in the Chronic Arm, those what trained with error-augmented visual feedback will have improved movement ability compared to those who trained with veridical visual feedback. 3. Is treatment with the looking glass and leap system feasible with an inpatient population? Investigators hypothesize that this treatment will be feasible for an inpatient population.

Caffeine is one of the most widely consumed substances worldwide. This study looks to test and measure the changes in different biomarkers in the blood before and after having caffeine using capillary and venous blood sampling methods. A biomarker is a measurable indicator of biological processes. The primary goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate participant rate and adherence. It will also learn about how caffeine affects different biomarkers that may be related to cardiovascular disease. Finally, it will assess the accuracy of the capillary blood samples compared to the venous blood samples. The main questions it aims to answer are: * What is the feasibility of recruiting and retaining participants? * Are the study procedures appropriate to be translated to a larger future study? Researchers will compare caffeine to a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no drug) to see if Participants will: * Be randomly assigned to the control group or the caffeine group. Individuals in the control group will be taking a placebo pill with no effect and those in the caffeine group will be taking 400mg of caffeine in pill form. * Be asked to undergo a fast of at least 8 hours overnight before taking two placebo pills or the 400 mg of caffeine via two caffeine pills. They will be required to stay fasted for 6 hours after taking the pill as well. The total time fasted will be at least 14 hours. * Have blood collected using three different methods before taking the two pills, 3 hours after taking the pills and 6 hours after taking the pills. The 3 methods include intravenous (IV) blood sampling, finger prick and collection on Whatman 903 Protein Saver Card and collection using the TASSO+ device. The TASSO+ blood collection device is a small capillary blood collection device that is designed to be easy to use and able to be used outside of a hospital/lab setting. Whatman 903 Protein Saver Cards are special filter paper with five circles for samples, that are designed for the collection and storage of blood.

Study ABX1100-1001 is a first-in-human (FIH), phase 1 study to assess the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a single ascending dose (SAD) and multiple doses (MD) of ABX1100 administered intravenously to healthy participants and patients with LOPD. * Part A features a SAD study with a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized design in NHVs involving 3 cohorts (A1-A3). Researchers are looking for new ways to prevent cancers related to human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can cause an infection. There are many different types of HPV. Most people's immune system can fight HPV infection and it goes away without treatment. For some people, HPV infections can last longer and may cause cancer years later. A standard vaccine to prevent HPV-related cancers is GARDASIL®9 (G9). G9 protects against 9 types of HPV but it does not protect against other types of HPV. The study vaccine (called V540D) is designed to protect against the same HPV types that G9 protects against plus other HPV types. The main goal of this study is to learn about the safety of V540D in healthy adults and if people tolerate it.

This study will randomly assign 2,300 older adults on waiting lists at fourteen Meals on Wheels programs in Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and California into two groups who will receive: (a) daily delivery of meals, five days a week or (b) a shipment of 10 frozen meals, every two weeks. Researchers will examine participants' Medicare claims to understand if differences in healthcare utilization occur between the two groups within six months after they start receiving meals. Researchers will also ask participants questions prior to receiving meals, and again at three months, to understand how meals impact their ability to obtain food, their feelings of loneliness, and their overall quality of life. The primary study outcome will be the ratio of days spent in institutional settings (i.e., hospital, nursing home) in the six months after participants begin receiving meals. The secondary outcomes include the ratio of days spent in institutional settings in the three months after participants begin receiving meals, food insecurity, subjective isolation/loneliness, and health-related quality of life. The team will also examine differences in dietary intake between the two groups as an exploratory outcome.

The I CAN intervention is a workshop that includes a presentation outlining key concepts related to social network processes and the cancer burden in Western New York, a structured skill-building activity, and then empowering and motivating activities meant to cultivate momentum and excitement for action. How much do Healthy Subjects clinical trials pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do Healthy Subjects clinical trials work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across Healthy Subjects trials 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length for Healthy Subjects is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a Healthy Subjects medical study?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental.
