This is a randomized prospective study assessing the impact of psychosocial factors on pain and physical performance among adolescents with leg pain. A set of psychosocial surveys assessing activity-related fear, stress, anxiety and depression will be completed by the participants. Participants will then complete self-report questionnaires assessing pain, quality of life and functional ability followed by an assessment of physical activity levels assessed with a wearable activity monitor;. Participants will then be randomized into one of two intervention groups (psychologically-informed video education group and a control group). After participants receive their assigned educational intervention, the self-report questionnaires will be re-administered. Participants with leg pain pain will then complete follow-up assessment of their psychological beliefs, pain, quality of life, physical activity levels, and self-reported functional ability through REDcap at 1 week, 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the efficacy of REACH Firearm Safety in a sample of pediatric residents. The study aims to implement Using the Connect (UTC), an innovative, game-based intervention designed to increase protective factors and decrease adolescent pregnancies. This intervention will be implemented in Texas middle schools and community-based organizations. The long-term goal is to promote optimal health in youth and prevent adolescent pregnancy in populations disproportionately impacted by adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates. The short-term objective is to conduct a robust, multi-site clustered randomized controlled trial to evaluate implementation outcomes and the impact of UTC, a novel theory-based game developed using powerful and effective human-centered design (HCD) strategies, on intention to delay sexual activity.

The U.S. registered nurse (RN) workforce is the largest in the Healthcare and Social Assistance Sector and is at high risk for injuries and errors due to poor sleep and fatigue. Shift work (i.e., nights, evenings, rotating shifts) can contribute to RNs not obtaining adequate, restful sleep. Work intensity, including heavy physical and emotional workloads of caring for critically ill patients, can contribute to job stress, resulting in spill-over effects at home when RNs experience difficulties falling and staying asleep. To address work and home sleep barriers, this project proposes the development and pilot testing of RN-SLEEP, a skill-building mobile application designed to improve sleep. RN-SLEEP will provide a convenient, flexible space to learn sleep-enhancing evidence-based shift work-specific strategies, and cognitive-behavioral methods, (e.g., goal setting, relaxation training). Using NIOSH's Research 2 Practice (R2P) approach, the study team will collaborate with participants (N=18-24) from an RN union to refine RN-SLEEP content, integrating current sleep literature (including National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health \[NIOSH\] material) with cognitive-behavioral based training. RN-SLEEP will be pilot-tested using a two-group pretest-posttest study design, comparing sleep outcome measures (duration, quality) of RN-SLEEP participant users (n=38) with participants from an education control group (n=38). Data trends on fatigue, what drives behavior change (beliefs and self-efficacy), and other sleep outcome measures (timing, regularity, efficiency, daytime sleepiness) will be explored. RN-SLEEP goals align with Healthy People 2030, NIOSH's strategic goal to promote safe and healthy work design and well-being through two NIOSH Healthcare and Social Assistance Sector/Healthy Work Design Cross-Sector (HCSA/HWD) intermediate goals. HWD goal 7.2A is to conduct intervention research addressing fatigue (poor sleep sequela) due to suboptimal work designs (shift work) in the healthcare industry. HCSA/HWD goal 7.12A prioritizes interventions designed to impact work and non-work contributors to safety and health. This RN-SLEEP intervention aims to improve sleep by building skills that help RNs overcome obstacles to sleep from work and home, thus improving health and safety. Immediate outputs include a mobile app, designed and tested in collaboration with RNs, to improve sleep. Study results will be disseminated through our union collaborators, nursing conferences and journal publications, and our University's NIOSH-sponsored Education and Research Center social media outlets. Intermediate outcomes include enhancing RN sleep through training rarely available in nursing schools and traditional hospital health and safety training programs. Improving sleep can reduce fatigue and may decrease occupational injuries and errors. RN-SLEEP is adaptable, where future versions could be modified to meet the needs of other HCSA workers (i.e., nursing aides) and workers in other industries (e.g., oil and gas) scheduled to work non-standard work hours. End outcomes include integrating RN-SLEEP into a broader hospital organization intervention to mitigate fatigue risks.

Surgical coaching involves the development of a partnership between two surgeons in which one surgeon (coach) guides the other (coachee) in identifying goals, providing feedback and facilitating action planning. Surgical coaching provides an effective means of acquiring new technical and non-technical skills. In this study, the investigators aim to perform a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of a video-based surgical coaching intervention on laparoscopic closure of the vaginal cuff among Obstetrics and Gynecology residents. Obstetrics and Gynecology resident participants will be randomly assigned to the control or intervention groups. Participants will have access to an instructional video related to laparoscopic vaginal cuff suturing and the validated laparoscopic vaginal cuff trainer to practice laparoscopic suturing as desired. The intervention group will receive the same resources as the control group and will also undergo three video-based coaching sessions focused on laparoscopic suturing on the validated laparoscopic vaginal cuff trainer. Our main outcome will consist of participants' change in technical skills of laparoscopic suturing the vaginal cuff, measured by the change in Global Operative Assessment of Laparoscopic Skills Plus score (Vassiliou 2005) from baseline to study completion. Secondary outcomes will include participants' self-reported surgical confidence, operative enjoyment, and plans to incorporate surgery into their career.

The proposed study is looking to examine the effects of High-Fidelity Patient Simulation (HFPS) on clinical reasoning skills and interprofessional competencies in Physical Therapy and Nursing students. The proposed study will have two objectives: 1. Assess the use of HFPS and whether it has an effect of improving physical therapy and nursing student performance related to clinical reasoning skills during simulated clinical situations. 2. Assess the use of HFPS and whether it has an effect of improving physical therapy and nursing student self-reported changes in team work and communication based on the IPEC core competencies Researchers will compare students who do not receive a simulation (Group C) to those who receive two simulations (Group E). Participants will: 1. Be assigned to one of 2 groups (Group C, Group E) 2. Based on group assignment receive no simulation or 2 simulations 3. Each group will be assessed at the end for their inter-professional attitudes and clinical reasoning skills

Childhood is an opportune time to intervene in obesity because behaviors that are developed during this time can have long-lasting effects and disrupt trajectories of obesity. This proposal aims to test the feasibility (i.e., participant acceptance, adherence, and retention) of a family-oriented intervention "AyUDA" (Aprender y Utilizar Decisiones Apreciables-Learning and Utilizing Significant Choices). The culturally tailored, two-arm adapted intervention to engage Latinx parents in healthy feeding and lifestyle practices for their children 2-5 years old, thereby reducing early childhood overweight and obesity. The investigators will use concepts of the Social-Ecological Framework for Obesity among Latinx, and the Social Learning Theory that emphasizes the importance of observing, modeling, and imitating behaviors. This approach includes a community engagement partnership with one clinic that serves a great number of Latinx families with 2-5 aged children in Central Kentucky (General Pediatric Clinic-Clinica Amiga). The investigators propose a two-arm randomized clinical trial (RCT) randomly assigning participants to either a telehealth deep cultural level group or a culturally traditional educational group in a sample of 40 Latinx families who will be followed for six months after the intervention. Moreover, investigators will explore short-term changes of the intervention on dietary behavior changes and anthropometric measurements among family members. The feasibility study will inform effect sizes that will be used to estimate statistical power for a future R01 on Community Level Interventions to Improve Minority Health and Reduce Health Disparities, National Institute of Health (NIH).

The METEOR Trial will compare four implementation strategies-traditional online education, protocol-directed care, interprofessional education, and a combination of protocol-directed care and interprofessional education-to test the hypotheses that interprofessional education is superior to traditional online education as an implementation strategy in the intensive care unit (ICU) and the benefits of interprofessional education are increased when interprofessional education is paired with a clinical protocol. Additionally, the trial will also test the hypothesis that preventive post-extubation NIV for high-risk patients and preventive post-extubation HFNC for low-risk patients are both superior to current clinical practice (i.e., conventional post-extubation oxygen therapy).

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare two health system-based approaches for offering kidney failure treatment options to older patients with kidney failure, specifically, to ensure patients are actively involved in a shared decision making (SDM) process covering a full range of treatment choices and have meaningful access to that full range of choices. These include standard in-center or home dialysis as well as alternative treatment plans (ATPs): active medical care without dialysis, time-limited trial of dialysis, palliative dialysis, and deciding not to decide. Approach 1 - Educate and Engage: Nephrology practices encourage their patients to a) participate in a kidney disease education program providing a balanced presentation of all options including ATPs, b) use evidence-based patient decision aids that include ATPs, and c) engage in SDM with staff trained in communication skills and best practices. Approach 2 - Educate and Engage Plus Kidney Supportive Care Program: Nephrology practices add a primary palliative care program to support patients who choose ATPs and their families. The program provides care coordination, symptom management, advance care planning, and psychosocial support to supplement usual care from their nephrologist. To compare the two approaches, the investigators will conduct a repeated, cross-sectional stepped wedge cluster randomized trial involving 20-25 chronic kidney disease clinics at 8 practice organizations around the United States. Aim 1: Compare the effectiveness of Approaches 1 and 2 in a) increasing proportion of patients choosing ATP and b) reducing patient-reported decisional conflict about treatment. Aim 2: Compare the patient and family experience of ATP care between Approaches 1 and 2 in terms of quality of life, services used, and end of life (EOL) experience. Aim 2a will focus on experience while patients are receiving an ATP. Aim 2b will describe the EOL experience. Aim 3: Evaluate implementation of each approach through a mixed-methods design based on the expanded RE-AIM framework. For Aims 1 and 2, researchers will collect information by chart review and surveys with patients and caregivers. For Aim 3, clinic administrators, clinical providers, and staff will complete pre- and post-test surveys at the beginning and end of each training.

Atrial Fibrillation is a chronic disease with significant health consequences like increased risk of stroke, heart failure, heart attack and death. Educating patients about the disease is important for them to be able to understand the condition better, feel empowered and take an active part in their care plan. AI technology can potentially be used to impart such education. However, doing so with care and empathy is equally important. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure when AI technology is used to impart education about atrial fibrillation to patients, the humane aspects of the interaction are rigorously tested. This study examines a way to impart atrial fibrillation education through interaction with an AI chatbot, that uses text and links to educational videos. To participate in this study, people need to be age 18 or older and have a history of newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation. Approximately 40 individuals will be asked to take part in this study. The first step to the study will be reading through, understanding, and signing an informed consent. People who then agree to join the study will have a one-time interaction with the AI chatbot and structured educational material by using an iPad provided to them for the approximately 1 hour duration of the study. People in the study will obtain atrial fibrillation education by typing one by one on the iPad, up to 10 questions about the disease. Answers will include text and links to videos. Before and after atrial fibrillation education, people who join this study will be asked to fill out a survey. The study team will teach patients how to use the iPad and type in questions.

The study team is conducting this project to learn more about how patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) like to use and receive educational materials about treatment options and treatment decision making. This study will assess the efficacy of a decision support intervention to make decisions about treatment and disease management for patients with EoE and will assess the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention to inform future R01-level studies. The study team hypothesize that deploying the intervention will be feasible, and it will demonstrate high acceptability among EoE patients. Additionally, that patients that use the intervention (vs general education about EoE) will report greater treatment knowledge, increased readiness to choose a therapy, adherence to therapy, and follow-up.

People with chronic migraine headaches face many challenges, including high levels of daily pain, disturbances to everyday activities and sleep, and problems with mood such as depression or anxiety. This trial is being completed to study whether changing an individual's behaviors may have an impact as a treatment for migraine headaches. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of the four arms. This study will be conducted remotely without in-person contact. Study Hypothesis: * There is a main effect of attending either the Empowered Relief and Health Education intervention on reductions in migraine-related disability 1 month after completing either intervention * There is a main effect of Empowered Relief and Health Education interventions on reducing pain-related catastrophizing and migraine symptom severity 1 month after completing either intervention (secondary hypothesis) * The expected reductions in migraine-related disability, pain catastrophizing, and migraine symptom severity will be maintained at secondary time points (2 months, 3 months, and 6 months after completing either intervention) (secondary hypothesis)

This study will test whether the Support, Educate, Empower (SEE) personalized Glaucoma Coaching Program improves eye drop medication adherence among glaucoma patients compared to enhanced standard care in a randomized controlled clinical trial. As a secondary outcome, the study will test whether glaucoma related distress decreases among SEE program participants compared to the control group. The study hypothesis is that glaucoma patients with poor adherence who receive motivational-interviewing based counseling and personalized education from a trained non-physician glaucoma coach through the SEE Program will improve their medication adherence compared to glaucoma patients standard care enhanced by additional educational handouts.

The purpose of this clinical trial is to analyze the effect of augmented reality (AR) on patient education and overall satisfaction when used during preoperative counseling in adults undergoing spinal surgery. The main aims of this study are: Aim 1: To determine if the use of AR in preoperative consultations is associated with higher levels of patient satisfaction, higher levels of confidence in surgeons, lower levels of preoperative anxiety, and lower patient reported pain scores. Aim 2: To determine if the use of AR in preoperative consultation will enhance patient education and understanding during the surgical consent process and lead to higher patient retention rates and new patient referrals. This study will compare AR enhanced preoperative patient counseling with conventional preoperative counseling practices.

This research is studying what things change the way people think about treatment for chronic pelvic pain (CPP). The study team is also interested in whether a web-based educational and self-management program for chronic pelvic pain changes how people think about chronic pelvic pain treatments. The program contains several different self-guided modules that include cognitive and behavioral structuring, self-administration of acupressure, engaging in physical activity, and a brief introduction to pelvic floor physical therapy techniques. The study hypothesis is that patients with CPP will report that prior treatment experiences and most trusted source of medical information will be associated with baseline perceptions of various CPP treatment modalities.

The purpose of this randomized controlled study is to investigate the effect(s) of a pilot women-only cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program. The study team will be testing the effectiveness, compliance and enjoyment of this women's only cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program by comparing outcomes to those randomized to receive Michigan Medicine's current CR program (standard care), which includes people of all genders. Study hypotheses: * Women randomized to women-specific CR programming will have superior attendance and completion rates compared to women attending mixed-sex CR programming. * Women randomized to women-specific CR programming will experience greater improvement in clinical outcomes in comparison to those in mixed-sex CR programming.

While diabetes self-management and education is known to offer opportunities to develop self-management skills required to achieve and maintain short- and long-term diabetes outcomes, emerging adults are reported to have poor clinic attendance and in turn low participation in diabetes self-management education and support services. This pilot study aims to test a novel approach to diabetes self-management education and support that incorporates technological and applied learning-driven methods delivered through group telemedicine visits to improve emerging adults engagement in diabetes self-management education and support with the ultimate goal of improving diabetes outcomes.

Unfortunately, only 40% of US pediatric residency programs reported in a survey that vaccine safety and counseling training is provided to residents. The success of a residency curriculum focused on communication strategies with patients hesitant to receive the influenza vaccine has been demonstrated, finding a decreased rate of vaccination refusal in the post curricular period. In a recent 2020 study, it demonstrated the positive impact of an online vaccine curriculum on resident vaccine knowledge and self-reported confidence in counseling vaccine hesitant patients. Providers have the potential to impact a substantial pediatric patient population. The outpatient clinics where the residents included in this study care for patients had 9942 pediatric visits in 2021. Each visit is an opportunity to talk with families about vaccines, address concerns and to administer vaccines when needed. The hypothesize is that interactive educational interventions using the online training modules combined with the standardized patient encounters will increase resident vaccine knowledge and confidence, and enhance communication and counseling skills, thereby improving vaccination rates of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Influenza, Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) and Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Beaumont residency clinics.

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do Education clinical trials work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across Education trials 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length for Education is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.
