What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests two types of multifocal contact lenses to determine their effectiveness in improving vision for people with presbyopia, a condition that makes it difficult to see things up close. Participants will try different lenses to identify which provides the best visual clarity. This study suits those who regularly use soft contact lenses and need correction for reading or other close-up tasks.

As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to explore new options for enhancing vision clarity.

Do I need to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

You may need to stop certain medications before joining the trial. Specifically, you should not use oral retinoids, oral tetracyclines, anticholinergics, oral phenothiazines, or oral/inhaled corticosteroids within 1 week prior to enrollment. Also, you cannot use any ocular medications except for rewetting drops.

What prior data suggests that these multifocal contact lenses are safe for presbyopia?

Studies have shown that ACUVUE® OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal contact lenses are generally comfortable for most people. They include features like UV protection and blue-violet light filtering to enhance comfort and safety. However, some users might experience mild irritation or discomfort.

Research indicates that INFUSE® One-Day Multifocal lenses are also safe for use. These lenses provide clear vision at various distances and help reduce dryness, a common issue with contact lenses.

Both types of lenses are designed for single-day use and disposal, which helps keep eyes clean and reduces the risk of infection. While these lenses are safe for most people, individuals with an eye infection should not wear them.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial's treatments?

Researchers are excited about these multifocal contact lenses for presbyopia because they offer a new level of convenience and comfort. Unlike traditional reading glasses or bifocal contacts that can be cumbersome and require frequent switching between pairs, ACUVUE® OASYS MAX 1-Day and INFUSE® One Day Multifocal lenses are designed for all-day wear without the need for adjustments. These lenses use advanced materials and design to provide clear vision at multiple distances, reducing eye strain and enhancing overall visual experience. This innovative approach could significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with presbyopia, offering a seamless transition between near and far vision tasks.

What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective for presbyopia?

This trial will compare the effectiveness of ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal lenses and INFUSE One Day Multifocal lenses for presbyopia. Studies have shown that 62% of users prefer ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Multifocal lenses for clear vision, with 70.4% satisfied with end-of-day comfort. Meanwhile, research indicates that INFUSE One Day Multifocal lenses help users see clearly at different distances, with 90% agreeing they can easily switch between near and far vision. These findings suggest that both types of contact lenses can improve vision for people with presbyopia, a condition that makes it difficult to see things up close as they age.678910
