MyStroke Educational Platform for Stroke Management
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to evaluate how a personalized video-based education platform affects patient satisfaction and knowledge about managing stroke after experiencing one. Participants will either use a new platform called MyStroke or receive standard stroke education from their medical providers. The trial targets individuals who had an ischemic stroke (a type of stroke caused by a blood clot) between 1 and 10 years ago and are currently receiving outpatient care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Participants must have access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer and be willing to complete two follow-up surveys.
As an unphased trial, this study allows participants to contribute to innovative research that may enhance stroke recovery education.
What prior data suggests that the MyStroke educational platform is safe for stroke management?
Research has shown that the MyStroke platform, a personalized video-based educational tool, has been well-received by patients and caregivers. Earlier studies indicated that it increased satisfaction without causing harm or discomfort, and no reports of negative effects have emerged. The platform aids stroke survivors by providing information tailored to their needs. It involves no medication or physical treatments, making it generally safe. By focusing on education, it allows participants to learn at their own pace, offering a low-risk option for those considering joining the trial.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the MyStroke educational platform because it offers a personalized, video-based approach to stroke management, unlike the traditional standard education provided by medical staff. This innovative platform tailors information to individual patients, potentially increasing engagement and understanding, which could lead to better management of stroke recovery and prevention. By leveraging multimedia and personalized content, MyStroke aims to enhance patient education beyond the typical pamphlets and verbal instructions, offering insights that could transform how stroke patients learn about and manage their condition.
What evidence suggests that the MyStroke educational platform is effective for stroke management?
Research has shown that the MyStroke educational platform, available to participants in this trial, can enhance stroke patients' satisfaction with their learning experience. In earlier studies, 90% of patients using MyStroke reported satisfaction with the education received, compared to 73% of those receiving standard education. This suggests that personalized videos might improve patients' understanding of their condition. The platform aims to increase stroke knowledge and might reduce the need for healthcare services after hospital discharge. Early findings indicate that MyStroke use could result in better-informed patients who feel more confident in managing their condition.12346
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults who had an ischemic stroke between 1 and 10 years ago, are getting outpatient care at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, can use a smart device or computer, and are willing to do follow-up surveys. It's not for those who can't use the app, need full-time caregiver help, had their stroke outside the 1-10 year window, or have severe speech difficulties.Inclusion Criteria
