What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if a new program can assist individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis (joint pain and stiffness) who are awaiting joint replacement surgery. The program, called Choose to Move Replacement Ready, is a 3-month plan where participants set goals, attend group meetings, and perform exercises at home. The study seeks to assess the program's ease of delivery and effectiveness for those on the surgical waitlist. Suitable candidates are English-speaking older adults with hip or knee issues awaiting surgery. Participants will provide feedback about their experience through surveys and interviews. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity for participants to contribute to innovative solutions for managing osteoarthritis while awaiting surgery.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the Choose to Move Replacement Ready program is safe for individuals with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis?

Research has shown that the Choose to Move Replacement Ready (CTM-RR) program benefits individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis awaiting surgery. While specific safety data is unavailable, CTM-RR relies on physical activities rather than medication or surgery. It involves exercises and online meetings, which generally pose lower risks compared to other medical treatments.

The program offers online consultations and group meetings, along with home exercises for hips and knees. These exercises aim to keep participants active and prepare them for surgery. With its focus on guided movements and discussions, the program is likely manageable for participants. However, individuals should consider their health conditions and consult healthcare providers if necessary.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Choose to Move Replacement Ready program because it offers a unique approach for people with hip and knee osteoarthritis awaiting surgery. Unlike traditional treatments that focus mainly on medication or physical therapy post-surgery, this program empowers participants by integrating virtual consultations, group meetings, and home exercises before surgery. The emphasis on peer support and goal-setting aims to enhance participants' physical activity levels and prepare them better for surgery. This proactive approach could potentially improve surgical outcomes and overall well-being, making it a promising addition to existing treatment options.

What evidence suggests that the Choose to Move Replacement Ready program is effective for individuals with osteoarthritis on surgical waitlists?

Research shows that the Choose to Move Replacement Ready (CTM-RR) program might help people with hip and knee osteoarthritis. Studies have found that education and exercise programs can lessen pain and improve movement for those awaiting joint replacement surgery. In this trial, participants will engage in the CTM-RR program, which offers personal coaching, group meetings, and exercises to achieve these benefits. Participants in similar programs have reported a better quality of life and improved function. While specific data on CTM-RR's effectiveness is still being collected, the program is based on proven methods for managing osteoarthritis symptoms.14567
