What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores a new digital program called SUPPORT-T, designed to help individuals with Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis (PPF) and their caregivers manage the condition more effectively. SUPPORT-T includes a 9-week digital app with nurse guidance and virtual support groups over a year. The trial will compare the effectiveness of SUPPORT-T with standard care to determine its potential usefulness in future larger trials. Individuals diagnosed with PPF who speak English or Spanish may be suitable candidates for this study. As an unphased trial, participants can contribute to innovative research that could shape future care strategies.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that the SUPPORT-T intervention is safe?

Research has shown that telehealth programs like SUPPORT-T can be safe and well-liked by patients. For instance, one study found that a similar tele-nursing program increased satisfaction among patients with pulmonary fibrosis. These patients felt better prepared and more confident in managing their condition.

Another study found that breathing exercises provided through telehealth reduced symptoms such as shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. These findings suggest that SUPPORT-T, where a nurse assists participants through a digital platform, could be a safe choice for those seeking extra support in managing their condition.

Overall, evidence indicates that digital programs like SUPPORT-T not only are feasible but also help improve the quality of life for patients with similar conditions.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the SUPPORT-T program for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) because it offers a unique telehealth-based approach to patient care. Unlike traditional treatments that often rely on in-person visits and medication, SUPPORT-T emphasizes biweekly telehealth visits and personalized communication through a secure platform. This method allows for real-time monitoring and support from a nurse interventionist, making it a potentially more convenient and responsive option for patients. By integrating technology and direct patient engagement, SUPPORT-T aims to enhance patient experience and potentially improve outcomes in managing IPF.

What evidence suggests that the SUPPORT-T intervention is effective for Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis?

Research has shown that telehealth programs can increase satisfaction among patients and caregivers. One study found that a tele-nursing program using phone and email consultations improved patient satisfaction. Breathing exercises delivered through telehealth have positively affected symptoms like shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression in patients with lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which causes lung scarring. Although overall health quality showed little change, patients expressed high satisfaction with telehealth. These findings suggest that the SUPPORT-T program, which participants in this trial may receive as part of the intervention arm, could enhance the quality of life for individuals with progressive pulmonary fibrosis.12367
