What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
Aim: We need to FEED (Facilitating Enteral Education for Discharge) project aims to streamline and enhance the discharge process for pediatric patients with enteral nutrition (including G-tubes, J-tubes, GJ-tubes, and NG-tubes) and ultimately create enteral discharge protocol. The aim of the study is to describe the effectiveness of the discharge education program for children with enteral tubes on caregiver knowledge and determine the impact of the program on unplanned ER, Urgent care or clinic visits. By ensuring that all necessary supplies, orders, and follow-up appointments are in place prior to discharge, and by providing comprehensive education and support to parents, the project seeks to improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare utilization, enhance coordination and communication among healthcare providers.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for pediatric patients aged 0-17 years with newly placed enteral feeding tubes (G-tube, J-tube, GJ-tube, or NG-tube). A legal guardian must engage in the study and educational sessions. Both patient and caregiver need to participate in surveys and be hospitalized at the time of the study.Inclusion Criteria

Screening
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial
Education
Participants receive education on enteral nutrition management, including an education handbook and onsite or virtual sessions
Discharge Preparation
Ensuring all necessary supplies, orders, and follow-up appointments are in place prior to discharge
Follow-up
Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after discharge, focusing on unplanned healthcare visits and caregiver knowledge
Long-term Follow-up
Tracking of unplanned healthcare visits related to enteral tube issues through study completion

Trial Overview
The FEED project tests an education program aimed at improving discharge processes for children with enteral nutrition needs. It evaluates how well caregivers understand care post-discharge and if this reduces unplanned medical visits.

Experimental Treatment
Active Control
Education Intervention provided to the intervention group. Intervention will include education handbook, onsite or via zoom education of g tube, question and answer.
Usual care group will receive usual care/education provided at UI health on feeding tubes.
