What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if a program called RISE can reduce burnout and enhance mental well-being among nurses. Participants will attend weekly group sessions led by a mental health counselor. The trial includes two groups: one begins the program immediately, while the other starts after a six-month delay. Nurses who have completed preceptor training and worked at least 48 hours in the past year at AdventHealth may be suitable candidates. As an unphased trial, this study provides nurses with a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative mental health solutions in their field.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems focused on evaluating burnout and well-being, so it's unlikely that medication changes are required.

What prior data suggests that the RISE for Nurse Preceptors program is safe?

Research has shown that the RISE for Nurse Preceptors program is generally safe and well-received. Participants have reported no major side effects. Group sessions led by a mental health counselor aim to reduce burnout and improve mental well-being. While specific negative effects have not been detailed, the program is considered safe for participants.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the RISE Program for Burnout because it directly addresses emotional exhaustion in nurse preceptors through structured psychoeducational sessions. Unlike common burnout interventions that may focus on stress management or self-care tips, the RISE program offers a dedicated support system with weekly 90-minute group sessions led by licensed mental health counselors. This approach not only provides professional guidance but also fosters a sense of community and shared experience among participants, which is crucial in combating burnout. By engaging in this comprehensive program, nurse preceptors can gain valuable coping skills and emotional support, potentially leading to more sustainable and effective burnout management.

What evidence suggests that the RISE program is effective for reducing burnout in nurse preceptors?

Research has shown that nurse mentors, known as preceptors, often experience high stress, which can lead to burnout. Regular interaction with these mentors significantly reduces stress for new nurses. One study found that hospitals with strong mentor support retained 86% of their newly graduated nurses, demonstrating the positive effects of these programs. Conversely, insufficient support for mentors can increase their stress and job dissatisfaction. The RISE for Nurse Preceptors program in this trial aims to address these issues by offering structured support. Participants in the intervention group will attend the program, which may help mentors become more resilient, compassionate, and empowered.45678
