Online Training for Burnout
(OME-RCT Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests an online program called the Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp to help reduce burnout (emotional exhaustion) in new doctors starting their first year of residency at Harlem Hospital. Participants will either use the program, which includes online training and Zoom sessions on mental health and managing work, or follow the usual residency orientation. The study aims to determine if the program can improve well-being by measuring stress and depression levels after six months. Doctors about to start their first year of residency in fields like Internal Medicine or Surgery, who have not trained in the U.S. before, might be a good fit. Results will help refine the program and plan larger studies at other hospitals. As an unphased trial, this study offers participants the chance to contribute to innovative research that could enhance residency training and support systems.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for this trial?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems focused on evaluating burnout and does not mention medication changes.
What prior data suggests that this online training program is safe for reducing burnout in residents?
Research has shown that the Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp aims to reduce burnout among medical residents. While specific data on negative effects from this program is lacking, its nature as an online educational tool generally indicates low risk. The program assists residents in managing stress and workload more effectively. As a course rather than a medication or medical treatment, it presents minimal safety concerns. Participants can expect a supportive environment focused on mental health and professional skills, with little risk of negative side effects.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp because it offers a novel approach to tackling burnout among medical interns. Unlike traditional in-person workshops or mentorship programs, this bootcamp is entirely online, providing flexibility and accessibility to participants. Over seven weeks, it delivers targeted, structured training that could effectively prepare interns for the demands of residency, potentially reducing feelings of burnout before they even start. The convenience and comprehensive nature of this online program could make it a game-changer in supporting new doctors.
What evidence suggests that the Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp is effective for reducing burnout in first-year residents?
Studies have shown that many medical residents, especially those in their first year, experience high levels of burnout. In this trial, participants in the intervention arm will receive the Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp, designed to reduce burnout by providing specific training before residency begins. Early results from similar programs indicate that such training can help lower stress and improve well-being by teaching skills such as managing mental health and time. Although specific data on this bootcamp's success is not yet available, similar workshops have shown promise in boosting resident morale and reducing burnout symptoms. The bootcamp aims to equip new residents with tools to better handle the challenges of their first year.13678
