How Natacyn Affects Patients

Natamycin is a type of antibiotic that is used to treat fungal eye infections. It is derived from a particular type of bacteria called Streptomyces natalensis and has been found to be effective against a variety of yeast and fungi, including Candida, Aspergillus, Cephalosporium, Fusarium, and Penicillium. When applied directly to the eye, Natamycin is able to reach the corneal stroma, but not the fluid inside the eye. It is only effective against fungi, and will not work against bacteria.

How Natacyn works in the body

Natamycin works by attaching to a compound in the cell membrane of fungi, called ergosterol. This stops the cells from fusing and changing shape, effectively preventing the fungus from growing. This is different from other polyene antibiotics, which work by changing the permeability of the fungal membrane.

Natacyn for Fungal Infection of the Cornea of the Eye

These drops have been pure torture. They're made up of tiny beads that release the medication, and it feels like sand is constantly in my eyes. I've only been using them for 10 days, but I can't take it anymore. If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know.
