Denosumab to Prevent Breast Cancer in Women With BRCA1 Mutation

      Westwood, Kansas
This phase III trial compares denosumab to placebo for the prevention of breast cancer in women with a BRCA1 germline mutation. A germline mutation is an inherited gene change which, in the BRCA1 gene, is associated with an increased risk of breast and other cancers. Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody that is used to treat bone loss in order to reduce the risk of bone fractures in healthy people, and to reduce new bone growths in cancer patients whose cancer has spread to their bones. Research has shown that denosumab may also reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in women carrying a BRCA1 germline mutation.

Chemotherapy + Immunotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

      Kansas City, Missouri
This randomized phase III trial studies combination chemotherapy with blinatumomab to see how well it works compared to induction chemotherapy alone in treating patients with newly diagnosed breakpoint cluster region (BCR)-c-abl oncogene 1, non-receptor tyrosine kinase (ABL)-negative B lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as blinatumomab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. It is not yet known whether combination chemotherapy is more effective with or without blinatumomab in treating newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

      ATX-01 for Myotonic Dystrophy

      Fairway, Kansas
The goal of this clinical trial is to test ATX-01 in participants with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1). The main question it aims to answer is if ATX-01 is safe and well tolerated. The trial will compare the safety and tolerability of ATX-01 and a matching placebo. There will be a single-ascending dose part of the trial and a multiple-ascending dose part. In the single-ascending dose, participants will receive one dose of ATX-01 or placebo. In the multiple-ascending dose part, participants will receive three doses of ATX-01 or placebo. ATX-01 is a novel anti-miR (synthetic single stranded oligonucleotide) that inhibits a microRNA called miR-23b.

Iadademstat + Atezolizumab/Durvalumab for Small Cell Lung Cancer

      Westwood, Kansas
This phase I/II trial tests the safety, side effects, and best dose of iadademstat when given together with atezolizumab or durvalumab, and studies the effect of the combination in treating patients with small cell lung cancer that has spread outside of the lung in which it began or to other parts of the body (extensive stage) who initially received standard of care chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Iadademstat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as atezolizumab or durvalumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Adding iadademstat to either atezolizumab or durvalumab may be able to stabilize cancer for longer than atezolizumab or durvalumab alone in treating patients with extensive stage small cell lung cancer.

      Kansas City, Kansas
CMTX-101 is a bacterial biofilm disrupting monoclonal antibody being developed as an adjunctive therapy to standard of care antibiotics. The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the safety and tolerability of CMTX-101 in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). The main questions the study aims to answer are: * Are single doses of CMTX-101 IV infusion safe and tolerated * What is the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of single doses of CMTX-101 * Do single doses of CMTX-101 induce development of anti-drug antibodies (ADA) and neutralizing antibodies (Nabs)

      Frequently Asked Questions

How much do clinical trials in Kansas City, MO pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do clinical trials in Kansas City, MO work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials in Kansas City, MO 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length in Kansas City, MO is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility in Kansas City, MO several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study in Kansas City, MO?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.

What are the newest clinical trials in Kansas City, MO?

Most recently, we added Inhaled Ciclesonide for Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection and Clenbuterol for FSHD to the Power online platform.
