Despite major technological advances, management of type one diabetes mellitus (T1D) remains suboptimal, putting millions of people at risk for immediate and long-term complications. After meals, a mismatch between carbohydrate absorption rate and insulin action typically leads to alternating periods of hyper- and hypoglycemia. A conceptually promising approach to control both problems is dietary carbohydrate restriction to reduce postprandial blood glucose changes and insulin needs. In a prior survey study, the investigators documented exceptional glycemic control (HbA1c 5.67%) and low acute complication rates among 316 children and adults with T1D consuming a very-low-carbohydrate diet. To test the feasibility of this approach, the investigators will conduct a randomized-controlled feeding study involving 32 adults and adolescents with T1D. Participants will be randomized to receive a very low carbohydrate vs. standard carbohydrate diet. Participants will be in the study for 12 weeks and receive all their meals by meal delivery.They will share continuous glucose monitoring data with the study team and be in close communication to adjust insulin doses as needed. All participants will have a screening visit, an individual or group education session, and 3 study visits to evaluate diabetes control and metabolic health. Some of these visits will have a fasting blood draw. Two of the visits will also comprise additional metabolic studies to assess glucagon response and brain function during hypoglycemia by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Participants will have IV catheters placed and receive IV insulin to drop blood glucose levels to 50 mg/dl for up to 30 minutes. The primary outcome will be HbA1c change from baseline. Secondary outcomes include detailed measures of glycemic variability, metabolic health, and quality of life.

The overarching goal of this work is to address the limited access to evidence-based health behavior and lifestyle interventions for youth and families most impacted by preventable chronic diseases, including obesity and type 2 diabetes. In the current project, we implement a small single-arm pilot and feasibility trial of Health Without Barriers/Salud Sin Barreras (HWB/SSB), a culturally-adapted, whole-family intensive health behavior and lifestyle intervention to 11-19-year-old adolescents and their families living in Northern Colorado. Objectives are refining the HWB/SSB community facilitator training, evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of HWB/SSB implementation, and characterizing changes in health outcomes among adolescent participants.

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effects of consuming meat and eggs from regenerative/pastured versus conventional farming practices on health biomarkers in middle-aged adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: How does consumption of pastured animal products influence red blood cell omega-3 fatty acid levels, inflammatory markers, and metabolomic profiles compared to conventional animal products? What are the potential metabolic health benefits or risks associated with consuming animal products from regenerative farming practices? Researchers will compare participants consuming pastured meat and eggs to those consuming conventional meat and eggs to determine differences in health outcomes. Participants will: Consume study-provided chicken thighs, ground beef, ground pork, and eggs for 16 weeks. Regular fish consumption may support brain health. Trout lines developed in Idaho contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, nutrients important for human cognition and mental wellbeing. Developed to support aquaculture sustainability, consumer preferences and human health benefits of these fish are unknown. The long-term goal of this project is to utilize nutrition education strategies to increase adult and child consumption of fish to improve brain health as measured by cognitive and emotional wellbeing. Research objectives and activities include, (1) adult and child consumer panels to provide sensory evaluation on three strains of trout, (2) effects of repeated exposure (RE) and child-centered nutrition phrases (CCNP) on eating behaviors and brain health will be determined using one control and two treatment groups of children in childcare settings, (3) effects of nutrition education, incorporating CCNP and fish preparation techniques, and RE targeting family meals on eating behaviors of children and brain health of adults and children will be determined using four treatment groups in the home setting.

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the impact of table grape consumption on gut microbiome, intestinal permeability, systemic inflammation, and vascular function in healthy overweight men and women aged 45-70 years. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does daily grape intake alter intestinal microbiome composition and intestinal permeability? * Are changes in gut microbiota and intestinal permeability correlated with changes in cardiometabolic risk factors (inflammation, vascular function, lipid profiles)? * Does response to grape intake on gut microbiota, intestinal permeability, cardiometabolic and inflammatory markers differ between men and women? * Are metabolic pathways modified by grape consumption able to explain the link between gut health and cardiometabolic factors? How do Healthy Nutrition clinical trials work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across Healthy Nutrition trials 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a Healthy Nutrition medical study?
