4DCT Trial Summary

This trial will test whether a new, non-invasive imaging technique can replace current invasive diagnostic tests for wrist ligament injuries.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 18-60 with suspected scapholunate ligament injuries in the wrist, indicated by specific signs like a positive Watson shift sign or tenderness over the joint. It's not for those with rheumatological conditions, congenital malformations of the wrist/forearm, diagnosed osteoarthritis, or if they can't be positioned properly in a scanner.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing whether 4DCT imaging can effectively diagnose wrist ligament injuries and potentially replace more invasive tests. Participants will undergo this advanced imaging technique to assess its accuracy and usefulness.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since 4DCT is an imaging procedure similar to regular CT scans but with movement captured, side effects might include exposure to radiation. However, there are typically no direct side effects from the scan itself.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Equivalency of 4DCT-based treatment plan to arthroscopic-based treatment plan, determined by surgeon evaluation and comparison, VAS, and PRWE.
Secondary outcome measures
Subject perception of surgical outcome

Frequently Asked Questions

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is there an opportunity for me to take part in this research?

"This clinical trial is accepting 60 people aged between 18 and 60 who exhibit a scapholunate interosseous ligament injury. Additionally, they must demonstrate the following criteria: Watson shift sign (Watson et al., J Hand Surg Am, 1988; 13:657-60); point tenderness on the dorsal side of the scapholunate joint; unilateral instability of the said joint."

Are there any available slots for participants in this research endeavor?

"According to clinicaltrials.gov, this experimental study is no longer enlisting participants. It was initially posted on October 23rd 2017 and its details were last modified on February 25th 2022. Despite the conclusion of recruitment for this one trial, there are presently 739 other trials actively recruiting patients from around the world."
