NET + MIST for HIV Prevention and Substance Use Disorders
Study Summary
This trial will compare two programs designed to lower HIV sexual-risk behaviors in American Indian / Alaska Native men and women. One program focuses on addressing PTSD as a way to prevent substance use disorders and HIV sexual-risk behaviors, while the other program focuses on addressing substance misuse as a way to prevent these disorders.

- I have had sexual activity at some point in my life.My psychiatric medication has been stable for less than 2 months.You are a member of a Native American tribe.You have had thoughts of hurting or killing someone in the past 3 months.You have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), even if they are not severe enough to meet the full diagnosis.You have used drugs within the last 12 months.You have had thoughts of suicide, made plans for suicide, or attempted suicide in the past 30 days.I am 16 years old or older.
- Group 1: Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
- Group 2: Motivational Interviewing w/Skills Training (MIST)
- No Placebo-Only Group - All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.
- Screening: It may take up to 3 Weeks to process to see if you qualify in this trial.
- Treatment: The duration you will receive the treatment varies.
- Follow Ups: You may be asked to continue sharing information regarding the trial for 6 Months after you stop receiving the treatment.
