Study Summary

This trial is investigating if using a solid backrest on a manual wheelchair will improve posture, function, and mobility, as compared with an upholstered backrest, for people with spinal cord injuries.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 18-70 with a spinal cord injury between C6-T4, who use a manual wheelchair full time and have been injured for over 3 months. It's not suitable for those over 250 pounds, with current pressure ulcers, significant shoulder pain, limited motion that affects pelvis/spine alignment, orthopedic braces affecting function, or cognitive/visual impairments.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if solid backrests on manual wheelchairs improve posture, function and mobility compared to upholstery backrests in individuals with spinal cord injuries. It also examines the effects of back height and contour as well as seat gap when using solid backrests.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While this trial does not involve medications that typically cause side effects, participants may experience discomfort adjusting to different wheelchair backs. There could be potential strain or soreness due to changes in postural support.
