Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

Brief Summary:It is the specific intent of this proposal to experimentally explore the possible benefits and mechanisms through which Sonic Augmentation Technology in music can influence emotional health, embodiment, and autonomic functioning. The main goals of the study are:* To examine the immediate effects of listening to the music.* To examine whether the participants who received the augmented theme reported more improvements than the participants who received the nonaugmented theme.* To identify individual characteristics that influence the effectiveness of listening to the music.Participants will be asked to:* Listen to 15-minutes of music* Complete a pre-music and post-music online survey* Attend the lecture/discussion with Dr. Porges and Anthony Gorry on theory and science underlying sonic augmentation technology and the experiences it aims to evoke.

Eligibility Criteria

This trial is for individuals who use hearing aids and are interested in exploring how Sonic Augmentation Technology in music affects their emotional health, sense of embodiment, and autonomic functions. Participants will need to listen to music for 15 minutes and complete surveys before and after the session.

Proficient in English

Exclusion Criteria

I am under 18 years old.
Limited English Proficiency
I am over 89 years old.

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

Treatment

Participants listen to 15 minutes of music and complete pre- and post-music surveys

1 virtual session

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for changes in subjective feelings of calmness and autonomic state

Trial Overview The study is testing the effects of augmented music versus non-augmented music on listeners with hearing aids. It aims to determine if augmented music provides more benefits than non-augmented versions, as well as identify which personal characteristics might affect these outcomes.

Group I: Augmented ThemeExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Participants will first complete the pre-music survey. They will then listen to 15 minutes of augmented music. Afterward, participants will complete the post-music survey.
Group II: Non-Augmented ThemeActive Control1 Intervention
Participants will first complete the pre-music survey. They will then listen to 15-minutes of the same musical theme without the augmentation. Afterward, participants will complete the post-music survey.
