Motivate Trial Summary

This trial will assess if nurse-led, web-based motivation & education can help young adults in Hamilton, Ontario maintain a healthy weight. Participants will receive either tailored intervention or just educational materials & will be followed for 6 months.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking McMaster University students aged 18-29 with a BMI of at least 18.5, who can consent to participate. It's not suitable for those with health conditions that conflict with weight management interventions, such as eating disorders, pregnancy, cancer, or if taking medications affecting body weight.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests whether web-based motivational interviews led by nurses plus educational materials help young adults maintain healthy weights and behaviors better than just getting educational materials. Participants are randomly assigned to one of these two groups and tracked over six months.See study design

Since the intervention involves motivational interviewing and education rather than medication or medical procedures, no traditional side effects are expected. However, participants may experience psychological discomfort from discussing personal habits.
