Study Summary

This trial is testing whether a combination of plasmapheresis, high dose cyclophosphamide, and total lymphoid irradiation followed by autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using filgrastim (G-CSF) mobilization and posttransplant immunosuppression with cyclosporine can improve the clinical course of life-threatening autoimmune diseases.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for patients with severe autoimmune diseases like various types of arthritis, anemia, vasculitis, and lupus. Participants must meet specific criteria such as age limits for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and certain blood count levels for anemia. They should have tried conventional therapies without success but had some response to immunosuppressive treatments.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if a stem cell transplant can help people with life-threatening autoimmune diseases. It involves stimulating the growth of new cells with filgrastim (G-CSF), removing plasma from the blood, high-dose chemotherapy, radiation therapy targeting lymph nodes, and post-transplant drugs like cyclosporine to prevent rejection.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects include complications from low blood counts like bleeding or infections due to bone marrow suppression by chemotherapy and radiation; organ inflammation; reactions during infusion; fatigue; nausea; hair loss; mouth sores from chemotherapy.
