Study Summary

This trial is testing whether the addition of the antidepressant escitalopram to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is more effective than DBT alone in treating adolescents with major depression.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for men and women aged 18-60 with Borderline Personality Disorder, who haven't taken any psychotropic medications for at least 2 weeks. It's not open to those with Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Mental Retardation, Substance Dependence or current Major Depression. Participants also shouldn't be in other individual psychotherapy.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combined with either the antidepressant escitalopram or a placebo over six months. DBT includes weekly group and individual sessions plus therapist availability by phone. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either the medication or placebo.See study design
