Study Summary

This trial studies a lateral stepping program's impact on fall risk, balance, & fear of falling in people with Parkinson's. The program is integrated into an existing community-based exercise program & participants are randomly assigned to either the program or a control.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) stages I-III, aged 50-85, who are on a stable PD medication regime. Participants must already be attending a community-based group exercise program at NY Tech at least once weekly for four weeks before starting the trial.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if adding lateral stepping exercises to an existing exercise program can improve balance and reduce fear of falling in PD patients. It's an exploratory trial where participants will do these extra exercises twice a week for eight weeks alongside their regular classes.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves physical exercises, potential side effects may include muscle soreness, fatigue, or increased risk of falls during the learning phase of new movements. However, these activities are designed considering the abilities of individuals with PD.
