What is the purpose of this trial?

This study plans to learn more about how different types of snacks may affect brain processes relating to eating behaviors during a diet intervention.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

Inclusion Criteria

BMI at least 27 kg/m2
I am between 25 and 45 years old.
I am comfortable taking part in a weight-loss program.

Exclusion Criteria

I have had major mental health changes or treatment in the past 3 months.
Currently participating in another weight-loss study
I do not have serious hormone, kidney, liver, or blood diseases that could affect the study.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Treatment

Participants complete a 12-week diet intervention with either walnuts or pretzels as a daily snack, with weekly meetings with study staff

12 weeks
Weekly meetings (some virtual, in-person every 2-3 weeks)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for changes in appetite response, dietary restraint, body weight, body fat, food cravings, and reward-based eating drive

4 weeks
