Study Summary

This trial will investigate using brain stimulation & motor imagery at home to help elderly improve mobility & reduce fall risk.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for older adults aged 70-95 who have internet access, can consent, are at risk of falling due to balance or walking issues, and can travel to the research site. They must not be on certain CNS medications, have severe arthritis or serious health conditions like uncontrolled hypertension, recent heart attacks or major surgeries.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a home-based intervention combining non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS) with motor imagery practice to improve mobility and reduce fall risk in older adults. Participants will either receive active tDCS or a sham treatment as part of their home exercises.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects from tDCS may include mild tingling, itching or discomfort at the electrode sites during application. There could also be fatigue or headache after sessions but these are generally temporary and considered mild.

How can I become a part of this clinical research?

"This trial seeks out 35 elderly individuals with a BMI classified as overweight or obese. The pre-requisites are: having some difficulty walking, access to internet enabled device with audio and video capability in a quiet area, ability to understand the informed consent form, readiness for randomization into either group of the study and completion of all assessments/interventions involved, capacity to commute between home and research site unassisted if necessary though help from family/friends is allowed when needed for donning tdcs headband, falling risk based on falls within last year or fear due to balance issues (based on 2020 NEJM findings)."
