Study Summary

This trial will study the effects of dietary strawberry supplementation on obese middle-aged and older adults' cognition and mobility. It is hypothesized that the plant compounds in strawberries may improve these functions.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for overweight adults aged 55-75 with a BMI of 30-40 and slightly elevated blood sugar levels (Hemoglobin A1C between 5.7 and 6.4%). Participants must be able to see well enough for computer tasks, speak and write in English, walk independently for 20 minutes, and women should be postmenopausal. Exclusions include vegetarians/vegans, certain chronic diseases or conditions affecting mobility or cognition, uncontrolled blood pressure, allergies to strawberries, heavy alcohol use, recent smokers or drug users.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests whether eating strawberries can help improve memory and walking ability in older adults who are overweight. Half the participants will receive strawberry supplements while the other half will get a placebo (a substance with no active ingredients), allowing researchers to compare the effects.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves dietary supplementation with strawberries versus a placebo without active ingredients, side effects may be minimal but could include allergic reactions in those sensitive to strawberries or gastrointestinal discomfort.
