Study Summary
This trial tests a new weight loss program combining diet, self-compassion, and bias reduction to help overweight adults lose weight and reduce internalized bias.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 with obesity (BMI ≥ 25) who feel a strong bias against their own weight. They must have access to a smartphone and not be on any current weight loss programs or medications. It's not suitable for those with Type I diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with eating disorders other than BED, recent cardiovascular events, uncontrolled high blood pressure, musculoskeletal issues preventing exercise, or major active diseases.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a new method of losing weight that combines standard techniques with exercises designed to reduce self-criticism about one's weight. Over the course of 12 weeks using videoconferencing software, participants will see if this approach can help them lose significant weight and lessen internalized negative feelings about their body size.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention focuses on behavioral changes and self-compassion exercises rather than medication or invasive procedures, side effects may include emotional discomfort due to confronting personal biases but are unlikely to involve physical side effects.
