Study Summary

This trial will compare two types of interventions for weight loss maintenance over 30 months. One intervention is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and the other is based on Self-Regulation.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking adults who can walk two city blocks, have a BMI between 27.5 and 45, and reliable internet access. It's not for those with recent pregnancies, heart conditions, or other health issues affecting exercise safety; planning pregnancy soon; in another weight loss program; recently lost significant weight; or on weight loss meds.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) versus Self-Regulation (SR) after initial online weight loss intervention. Participants who lose at least 4kg will be randomly assigned to either ACT or SR group sessions with weekly emails for six months.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves behavioral therapies rather than medications, side effects are minimal but may include emotional discomfort due to self-reflection during therapy sessions.
