Study Summary
This trial will study if a high-frequency PEMF therapy device can help reduce pain and improve function for people with thumb CMC joint osteoarthritis. The study will last for 8 weeks and will compare those who use the therapy device to those who use a sham device.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for people with thumb CMC joint osteoarthritis confirmed by a hand specialist, who feel pain less than 7 or 8 on the NPRS during daily activities. It's not for those who've had surgery for CMC OA, don't speak English, have heart/brain implants, are pregnant, or have other significant hand issues.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if high-frequency PEMF therapy can reduce pain in patients with thumb arthritis. Sixty participants will be split into two groups: one receiving real PEMF treatment and the other a sham device over four weeks, with follow-up at six weeks.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
PEMF therapy is generally considered safe but may cause discomfort or skin irritation where applied. The sham device should not cause any side effects as it's inactive; however, individual reactions to wearing the device overnight may vary.
