Why did patients apply to this trial?

I am very healthy when compared with others of my age, but not when compared with myself! I was first diagnosed with arthritis of the knee in 2006. I have tried: meloxicam; cortisone injections; synvisc; and physical therapy. Nothing does the trick. I used to be very physically active - I like to walk, dance, swim, and more, but now everything hurts. A lot of the time I do all of it anyway, but I pay the price in terms of agonizing knee pain. Sometimes I can barely walk up the stairs. I do not wish to have invasive surgery/2 knee replacements. My orthopedist, a few years back, told me that they are often not worth it - and that's what the research seems to show. But I can't go on this way.
