Reiki Therapy for Cancer
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial examines how Reiki, a form of energy healing, can help manage symptoms in people with cancer. It focuses on individuals already receiving integrative care and experiencing symptoms like fatigue that significantly affect daily life. The trial aims to determine if Reiki can improve these symptoms. Suitable participants should have a confirmed cancer diagnosis, be receiving specific integrative oncology care, and experience ongoing symptoms like fatigue. As an unphased trial, this study offers patients the opportunity to explore new ways to alleviate symptoms and enhance their quality of life.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications, but you cannot be on active immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment, or have completed them within 3 months before the study starts. Aromatase inhibitors and tamoxifen are allowed.
What prior data suggests that Reiki therapy is safe for cancer patients?
Research has shown that Reiki is generally safe for people of all ages, including those with cancer, with no reports of harmful effects. Often, it helps reduce anxiety and creates a sense of calm, which can be especially beneficial for cancer patients experiencing stress. While Reiki may improve quality of life, it is important to note that it has not been proven to directly treat medical conditions like cancer. Overall, Reiki is a gentle therapy and is considered well-tolerated.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Reiki therapy is unique because it offers a non-invasive, holistic approach to support cancer patients, differing from standard treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Researchers are excited about Reiki because it focuses on enhancing the body's energy flow, which might help reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Unlike conventional treatments that target tumors directly, Reiki aims to promote relaxation and potentially boost the body's natural healing processes, offering a complementary option to improve quality of life during cancer treatment.
What evidence suggests that Reiki might be an effective treatment for cancer-related symptoms?
Research has shown that Reiki therapy can help cancer patients feel better during treatment. A review of several studies found that Reiki improves well-being for those undergoing cancer treatment. In one study, patients who received Reiki reported feeling better during their treatment sessions. Another study found that Reiki helped reduce anxiety and improve mood in breast cancer patients before surgery. These findings suggest that Reiki may serve as a useful additional therapy for managing cancer-related symptoms. Participants in this trial will receive Reiki therapy to evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness for oncology patients.14678
