Beef Diet for Aging-related Muscle Weakness
Study Summary
This trial will compare muscle fatigue in older adults after eating a beef-based or vegetarian diet for 8 weeks. Biochemical markers and body composition will also be measured.

- I have a way to get to my appointments.I have a progressive neurological or musculoskeletal disorder, or arthritis.I have not had a fracture or serious injury in the last 6 months.I am currently taking blood thinners like Coumadin or Warfarin.I live or work more than 25 miles away from the study site or I can't get there.I am taking medication that affects my heart rate or blood vessels.My hemoglobin level is above the minimum required for my gender.I have a physical condition that prevents me from exercising.I have not had a stroke, surgery to improve blood flow, deep vein thrombosis, or lung blood clots in the last year.I can do sit-to-stand chair and 6-minute walking tests.I weigh at least 110 pounds.I can walk on my own without help.I have liver or kidney issues.I am planning to have surgery during the study.I am between 60 and 85 years old.I can give blood samples on an empty stomach.I do not have severe heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or chronic lung problems.
- Group 1: Vegetarian Diet
- Group 2: Beef Diet
- No Placebo-Only Group - All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.
- Screening: It may take up to 3 Weeks to process to see if you qualify in this trial.
- Treatment: The duration you will receive the treatment varies.
- Follow Ups: You may be asked to continue sharing information regarding the trial for 6 Months after you stop receiving the treatment.
