Study Summary

This trial will compare muscle fatigue in older adults after eating a beef-based or vegetarian diet for 8 weeks. Biochemical markers and body composition will also be measured.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for older adults aged 60-75 who are willing to follow a specific diet (beef or vegetarian) for 16 weeks and abstain from alcohol and drugs. They must be able to do physical tests, have transportation, speak English, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not suffer from severe health issues like heart disease or neurological disorders.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study aims to see if eating beef reduces muscle fatigue in older adults compared to a vegetarian diet. Participants will eat one type of diet for 8 weeks, take a break, then switch diets for another 8 weeks. Muscle function and blood indicators related to fatigue will be monitored.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since the interventions involve dietary changes rather than medications, side effects may include digestive discomfort as participants adjust to new diets. Specific side effects will depend on individual tolerances and health conditions.
