What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to help Chinese American families in New York City improve their diet and social bonds by providing boxes filled with whole grains, legumes, and educational materials that celebrate their cultural identity. The Family Box program seeks to reduce health issues like heart disease and diabetes in a culturally meaningful way. Families who are Chinese or Chinese American, have a child aged 2-6 living with them, and can pick up a box each month might be a good fit for this trial. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity for families to enhance their health and cultural connections.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the Family Box program is safe?

Research has shown that the Family Box program is safe for participants. The program offers culturally meaningful foods and educational materials to improve diet and strengthen family bonds. No reports of negative effects have emerged, as the program primarily involves dietary changes, which are generally safe. Without medications or medical procedures, the risk of side effects remains low. Participants can anticipate a positive experience centered on healthy eating and quality family time.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Family Box program for cardiometabolic diseases because it takes a unique, community-focused approach. Unlike traditional treatments that often focus on medication and individual lifestyle changes, this program provides culturally relevant resources directly to Chinese American families in New York City. By delivering boxes filled with ingredients, books, and educational materials tailored to their culture, the program aims to promote healthier family eating habits and lifestyle changes in a supportive, holistic way. This method could lead to more sustainable health outcomes by engaging the entire family in the process.

What evidence suggests that the Family Box program is effective for cardiometabolic diseases?

Research has shown that involving family can help manage health issues like type 2 diabetes and obesity. Families working together can better handle these conditions. In this trial, the Family Box Program will use family support to improve eating habits and social connections, aiding in disease management. Since these health problems often affect multiple family members, involving the whole family can be beneficial. Family support and cultural identity also impact heart health and disease outcomes. Overall, this program uses family and cultural ties to potentially improve health in meaningful ways.26789
