DRIVE Trial Summary

This trial will see if consuming more dairy reduces inflammation and other markers of chronic disease.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults with obesity and at least two other risk factors like high blood pressure, abnormal blood sugar or cholesterol levels, large waist size, or low physical activity. They must have a BMI of 25 or higher and typically eat little dairy (1 serving/day max). People taking multiple medications for lipids, glucose, or blood pressure; those allergic to dairy; lactose intolerant individuals; and anyone with diabetes/cardiovascular history cannot join.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if eating more dairy foods like yogurt, cheese, and milk over six weeks can lower inflammation and improve markers of chronic disease in obese individuals. This will be measured when participants are fasting as well as after they consume a high-fat meal.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While the study does not specifically list side effects from increased dairy consumption, potential side effects may include digestive discomfort such as bloating or gas especially in people who might have undiagnosed lactose sensitivity.
