P-CHAT Trial Summary

This trial will compare the satisfaction and benefit of hearing aids fit using two patient self-fit methods against those fit using audiology-based best practices.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals aged 50 to 79 with mild or moderate hearing difficulty, normal thinking skills, and no prior experience with hearing aids. They must be able to pay $650 for the devices, read and understand English, and have symmetric hearing loss that's not severe.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests two self-fit methods for hearing aids against the standard audiology-based fitting. Participants will be randomly placed into one of three groups to see which method provides better satisfaction and benefit after six weeks and six months.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While this trial involves non-invasive interventions (hearing aids), potential side effects may include discomfort from improper fit, earwax buildup, feedback noises, or temporary worsening of hearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Are they currently accepting participants for this research study?

"Data from clinicaltrials.gov confirms that this trial is still actively seeking participants, with the original posting occurring on December 1st 2020 and updates being made as recently as October 19th 2021."

Answered by AI

Are individuals aged 25 or over eligible to join the clinical trial?

Answered by AI

Could you tell me the aggregate amount of participants engaging in this trial?

"Affirmative. The information posted on clinicaltrials.gov demonstrates that this medical study is actively enrolling patients, which began on December 1st 2020 and was last modified on October 19th 2021. This trial requires 591 participants to be recruited from 4 different locations."

Answered by AI

Is it possible to enroll in this clinical experiment?

"This research is looking for 591 individuals aged between 50 and 79 who have hearing impediments ranging from mild to moderate. Ideally, these participants must not have had experience with any form of hearing aid, display symmetric issues in their auditory capacity (maximum severity: Moderate), possess a normal level of cognition, as well as be both willing and capable to pay the $650 fee required for the use of such devices."

Answered by AI

Are there numerous health care facilities undertaking this research in Canada?

"This experiment is currently being conducted at 4 distinct medical centres, located in Evanston, Galveston and Palos Hills alongside another unspecified location. To reduce the strain of travelling to one's appointment, it would be prudent for prospective participants to enroll at a clinic closest to their residence."
